Taken today & the next 2 days off work to help the Archaeologist with their survey of the land which is due to have a water pipeline put through it.

All the trenchs they have dug so far have been clear of finds & features. I am allowed to detect the land 10 metres either side of the trenchs & the spoil heaps.

Nothing in the Spoil heaps but my first find 1/2 metre from the trench was a Hammered Silver Halfgroat of Edward III.

3 scrappy roman coins, 2 of which were found after they had left in my last 1/2 hour, along with a Medieval cattle Bell.

Next week they are doing an area close to where I think a Roman Villa was, so should be more archeology & finds.

I have found plenty of Roman, Medieval & later Pottery shards.

As it happens the pipeline in question is cutting through the edge of a Victorian Bottle dump.
I use to dig a massive Victorian Bottle dump in North Yorks when I was a kid. The whole dump was 1000 metres x 1000 metres & the holes we dug we 6-7 ft deep. I collected over 3000 bottles, but had to throw most of them away when I moved.

That is awesome working with the Archies and nice finds! That Edward III coin is as old as my oldest hammered I have found in Germany. Thanks for sharing and HH, Mike
