Decorative musket ball er something?

Thanks to Earthworks for cleaning and photoing this...he says he thinks it's some kind of carved musketball...any ideas?

I'm with JohnReb1980. Looks like a nipple protector to me too. Clean out the rest of the sand. If you look at the round rings on the top they look to me like the hammer rested upon it, leaving the rings...d2
