Recent storms uprooted some really big old oak trees around where I was working today. I wasn’t allowed to fire up my saw until 10am so I poked around a 200 year old fallen oak tree. The root ball left a 5 to 6 foot hole and I found this iron hook dead center at the bottom about a foot down (so six feet under the tree). It looks as it has a rivet to swivel and would have guided a leather strap............ I think, I’m always wrong, so I won’t speculate.
