Finders Keepers won their lawsuit and the judge ordered the FBI to release a "trove" of documents, which include almost 1,000 photographs, with more documents supposedly to come. Not a lot of earth shaking news, but it certainly doesn't put anything to rest or answer questions:

Civil War-era gold: FBI's records on Pennsylvania search raise questions

Lawyers, lawyers, lawyers. Always get plenty of lawyers working for you if there is a possibility of striking something valuable. Sure, they cost a lot of money. But they can and do save your bacon when the federales come sniffin'.

Did anyone see "FBI: Most Wanted" last night? It featured a storyline just like the Dent's Run "gold" story. It featured a search for 9 tons of Civil War gold in Pennsylvania that a father/son team had proven was there with high tech scanning techniques. It made the father/son team seem like a couple of complete morons with racist tendencies.

They threw in a few murders for the FBI to solve and the Treasury Department swooped in and did the actual dig, but they supposedly didn't find anything. The nearby residents were hollering at the Treasury agents, saying that they saw the armored trucks leaving the site in the middle of the night, and that they KNEW gold was removed.

Any of this sound familiar?

Didn't see it, but it seems to be the coin of the realm in Hollywood these days to build their plots around "white supremacists" regardless of broader subject matter. But let me guess, they included the disclaimer, “Any similarity to actual persons, living or dead, or actual events, is purely coincidental.” Law & Order does this all the time, ironically after airing a week of previews that boast, "Ripped from the headlines".

Still an older news story from Oct. 2023

No matter what the "news" the essential question remains: If this story has a basis in fact, where did the gold come from? And why was it deep in the Pennsylvania woods?

Good luck to all,

Great questions. I'm usually very skeptical of large horde legends. This one would be no different except that the searchers got permission from the government, and then there was the big dust up with the FBI. Serious drama around all aspects of this. But that makes finding out what really happened all the more interesting.

During the Civil War, the North manufactured most of its arms and ammunition. The South purchased its from England.

As for the stories about the FBI taking the gold - it belonged to the US Government (if it existed at all, and clearly I don't believe the yarn).

That yarn brought 4 dozen heavily armd agents to dents run.. the FBI has the best researchers on the planet. THE FBI knew it was thier ,Why did the. FBI not let the folks that found the gold watch the dig ? they said they would . Why did the FBI spend hundreds of thousands on ATVs and hotel rooms for all the agents ...if the FBI thought the gold was there Why don't you ?....

I’m waiting to see some US Army paperwork with orders for transporting gold by wagon from WV to PA. The army always had a lot of paperwork, even during the civil war. Even if they were secret orders, there would still be a record somewhere. Library of Congress?🤔 Without some kind of paper trail, it’s just another treasure rumor. Evidence please! Anything!

50,000+ Americans were just killed at gettysburg.. anybody could read paper and they weren't about to leave copies of paper lying around for prying eyes ..America was in a civil war and things had to be done differently ..The FBI knows this that's why the rushed to the scene with four dozen agents carrying auto weapons any good treasure hunter knows that, just like the treasure hunters that found this trove and got shafted doing the right thing. AND all they had to do was let the finder watch the dig but chose to treat him like an idiot and make him sit in his car for hours then sent him home WHILE THE KEPT DIGGING INT THE NIGHT...

I am still waiting on the results of the court case filed, FindersKeepers -V- FBI. I am skeptical of conspiracy theories.

Claiming the possibility of human remains is guaranteed to draw attention from the FBI, and was intentional on behalf of the claimant.

Everything afterward is a ploy and grandstanding for optics.

This +1000

100% of Finders Keepers Dents Run claims have been fully debunked.

They continue to go back and change their posts on Facebook everytime they are called out.

Newer witnesses since the ruling...

Quite a dated article you offer as new.

Glean any new facts out of it? Me neither.

My answer to speculation is usually , prove it. But no proof has been forthcoming all this time.

A vehicle appeared to be carrying a load.
Let's discuss that.
Anyone ever encountered a heavy vehicle?
Unless you weighed everything coming in and everything coming out it doesn't matter. Same with potential cargo.
Weight certainly could be involved. Looking loaded SHOULD be a result.
If a squat posture vehicle indicates gold I must be rich. But I'm not.

No gold has been presented from Dents run.
No gold was recovered per F.B.I..

Dents run has a history.
Eyes have long existed there. No secret Dents Run exists.
Any secret confirmed accounts of secret gold hauled in by the tons? A single verified secret account of gold snuck in by the tons?

Any proof a single pound of gold was brought to and secreted in Dents run or near it?

A dig occurred.
activities related to a dig occurred.
No gold was evidenced by being gold. None. Zero. Zip. Nada Prada.
All the speculation. All the imagining. All the well it coulda's.
Not a gram of gold hidden in history has been proven to exist at Dent's Run.

How then can a theft of gold (by the government no less) be claimed?
Not by this last "new" article.

Hmmm. Might want to read a little closer. I said "newer" since the original ruling. I never said new as in recent. I looked elsewhere on this site for this article so as not to repeat it. Didn't find it anywhere. I thought some people (apparently not you) might appreciate other witnesses not previously mentioned. Move on, if you don't care to add anything of value. And Merry Christmas.

You can’t “add value” to something that has no value to begin with. No matter how many times you polish a turd, it’s still a turd.

Happy Holidays to you as well.

Your post states "New Witness".
Nope , still not new.
Well publicized and read at prior release time. If you missed it you missed it then it is still not new. Any Dent's Run fanatic knew it.
If you disagree , note a couple examples of fanatics that were unawares.
.
Speculation. An antler hunters opinion. A clanging sound like digging.
Yeah well , heavy equipment digging tends to clang doesn't it? Must be a vital part of the gold that wasn't somehow? Oddly neither the article nor yourself delve into that gem.
But there it is , a clanging. Ooo how vital!

Witnesses that didn't actually see anything of substance (like gold) beyond a suspicious looking vehicle. Does a suspicious vehicle mean it was laden with gold? What evidence or fact supports that?

How about you move on to any new fact since the "original ruling"?
Or at least something substantial to counter the no gold recovered statement of the F.B.I..

How much stolon gold was claimed to exist by Prada? And how does that relate to "witness's" vehicle spotted's weight capacity?

Just between you and me , if I invited the government to require tons of gold I might keep em honest on the sneaking off with it part.
Even if someone like myself had to see to it that others tailed the bumper dragging get away vehicle after filming it's loading.

Yes I hunt. And have property to watch when not present.
Think about how you would guard the activities unnoticed on a forest site.
Hint , game cameras make better decoys than secure vantages in documentation of government officials.
Before you argue you wouldn't know where to watch both in person nd by multiple electronic devices , ask where who parked when and where activity occurred. A very small area.

The we had a deal but they made us sit in a car story didn't make sense. Still doesn't.

But what really matters is what? New news.
Why is that?
Right.
Per usual.

New fact? Nope.
Gold? Nope.
New witness back when , to what? Heavy laden vehicle?
Were the witness(es) familier with weight capacity and condition of the suspension and the actual cargo of the suspect vehicle or not?
Nope.
Just speculating.
And that was the new news.
A witness to what?
Maybe I should read it again to waste more time.
Or write more about how irrelevant it is to any actual factual proof of a treasure in Dents Run that has so far been very lacking?

Here's an article newer than your new news! "It's a major cover up"!!!
Did you research the "gold story"?
See any gold?
Any proof of gold before or after the cover up?

[Three treasure hunters believe that a huge batch of lost Civil War-era gold has been found in Pennsylvania and clandestinely taken by the government, writes Kris Maher for The Wall Street Journal.

“It’s definitely a major coverup,” said Dennis Parada, who has been chasing the gold for over 40 years.

The gold Parada was looking for comes from the story of a Union caravan filled with gold bars in the false bottoms of wagons that was headed to the U.S. Mint, which was at the time in Philadelphia. The caravan was supposedly ambushed somewhere in Elk County.]

The caravan was supposedly ambushed somewhere in Elk County.
If the caravan was ambushed, the gold is long gone. I can't recall ever hearing about a large quantity of gold getting jacked while being transported, and the people doing the jacking were somehow unaware of how heavy the wagons were and just gave up looking for it, false bottoms or not. Whether or not the legend is true, or even whether the FBI booked off with the gold, at the crux of the problem is the key players didn't pay for good legal representation when negotiating with the feds to get permission to conduct their search. Had they done so, the agreement would have specifically allowed for them to be present for all activities conducted by the government. The agreement would also have allowed for video recording all activity by either party. And if they were smart, they would have sold the commercial video rights to the History Channel and had some walking around money regardless of whether gold was found or not.
