I found this Denver City Tram Company button last Saturday and was wondering if anyone can help date it. The back is marked Steele & Johnson Waterbury. Thanks for any help. Lloyd

Could be anywhere from the end of the CW to about the 1920's. Nice find in nice shape!

Nice Colorado button !!!!!! :icon_thumright: Cant help much with the date, but would think 1890s. HH :headbang:

There is no listing of the Denver City Tram Company or DCTC in the Atwood Coffee Catalogue of Transportation tokens. There is a mention that the Denver Tramway Company was founded in 1914 with the merger of two tram companies. I expect that your button predates this merger and was one of the companies that merged to found the DTC. It is a very RARE and nice find. Could be unique or one of a couple known.

I found a button similar to yours that was auctioned in 2008, no information was included on it's history.
On the reverse it says, " "Wanamaker & Brown, Phil'a".
That's a very cool button Lloyd!

Dave

Thanks for the help guys! I have not tried to clean the dirt out yet so may look a bit nicer when that is done. I will try to research more on the companies that merged to form the DTC. Appreciate the pic of the similar button you found. Any idea of the value? Thanks Antiquarian. Lloyd

sorry cant help but nice find keep us up to date on the find

I believe it's around 1890-ish. I've dug a couple like yours, one smaller cuff, and one your size but pushed in slightly with the back-mark,"Wanamaker & Brown, Phil'a"
And I have two that say "D.T.CO.
Will research further, now I want to know which version came first.
Carl
