thanks River Rat and everyone else!!!

Smokin!! Looks like you are detecting virgin territory. Metal detecting heaven. ;D ;D If I was finding stuff like that I would go four days also. Which detector were you using and what was the deepest coin you found? Also if you can get a close up of that capped bust dime. You don't see many of those here.

Beautiful....just beautiful!! I would faint with just one of those! Having trouble locating places to hunt around here! Everything is occupied or I just don't know where to go! I know there are here! :-\ WTG man......owie on the sunburn :-[

Happy Hunting,
Moon

Now that is how you pay for your detector(s). ;D The 1863 in good lists for $275. The 1832 half dime around $150-$200. Cha-ching!

Mirage

thanks everyone yeah I love that half dime!!

Hey JD. Fantastic finds. In your top picture there is an item in the middle that looks like a semi circle with four holes in it. I bet is has a rope like edge on it. I just found one on Sunday Identical to it. Do you have any idea what it is. Would appreciate any information. thanks...Lance

yes comfy it does have a rope like reeded edge I have no idea what it was used for I'd sure like to know too. hh bud jd

Hey JD. I just posted a pic of mine. Take a look. At first I thought that it was broken off but it is identical to yours. Maybe someone will see it and let us know. Thanks...Lance

I bet that sunburn was worth it, those were some awesome finds!! Could that semi-circle whatsit be a version of a heelplate or some other thing that went under a boot?

Unbelieveable, JD! You're like the energizer bunny.... you just keep on going... and going... and going...
Excellent finds. Why did people drill so many holes in coins during the 19th century, anyhow?? ;)
HH,
Bob

thanks guys!! i think the holes in the coins were from people wearing them for decoration or hiding them in na jacket from thieves.. I wish i knew for sure what they were there for. hh jd

Some folks would keep them on a ring so they where hard to lose.pull one off spend it someone else gets it in there pocket and then they lose it

Hay jd comfyinvermont found the same thing as you did.The thing thats almost round with four holes in it take a look at his post
