Scrappy's 2015 Top-10 finds... Cobs, Capped, mucho Reales, and mas...

Back in, I dunno, maybe March? Ahab said on a group text that we were all going to have a year beyond our wildest dreams. I'll let the other guy in the group speak for himself, but he was pretty much spot on...

I enjoy the Top Ten format, so that's my plan, which should keep this post succinct and fun.

#10 - exquisite 1734 King George 2nd. Dug a whisper at 13" down.... there's little doubt this copper escaped a lot of weathering from 280 years deep in the ground.

#9 - Seated Sandwich! I guess the combination of a Seated half, shield Nickle, and seated dime make a target sound like crap. Well out popped a solid hunk of coins "glued" together....I literally had to pry them apart!

#8 - 1876 seated quarter. It may not sound like much to many but I've dug lot of seated coins but never a quarter. It was dragging me down man! Lol. Helping it on the countdown is the condition!

#7 - A recent find! complete and intact 1770's colonial shoe buckle. If you really think about what luck it takes for a shoe buckle to come off a boot, sit in the ground, and be safely dug 240 years later, its mind boggling. Dug from a British encampment

#6 - 1863 R.T Kelly "Hats" token. Apparently a very rare variety and in excellent condition, this store token is about a close to civil war goodies that I've dug this year.

#5 - Spanish 1/2 reale! I've found more than 1 Spanish coin this year, but the one that sticks out is a 1772 in just great dug condition.

#4 - 8 reale!! I almost fell over when I dug this beautiful 1833 Mexican 8 reale monster. It rang up like a beer can, and was so shiny in the hole I thought it was the bottom of one. Found it in New Smyrna, FL. (Notice no toning from being in an oxygen deprived environment? Look at the 2nd Pic after being out)

#3- Hammered Spanish Silver & Capped bust dime. Found a barber and was calling it quits when I got a signal walking back to the car...it was a Spanish Cob at 3" that sounded like a zincoln. I'm shaking now and decide to call it quits and again walk to the car when I get a perfect signal - a capped dime, 1834.

#2 - 4 Washington Inagural buttons. 19mm cuff size. Apparently on the rarer side of GW buttons. Most of you probably saw these but holy Mackerel these blow my mind.So originally I posted them not knowing what they were and right away a fellow t-net member nailed it!

#1 - A hunt with my mom and son, 1903 Barber half. The beauty was my son pulled this from the hole (11" deep mind you) with my mother watching. It was a unique feeling feeling proud of your child as they pull a coin out in awe, while your mother is watching you (obviously impressed!). All from a park that has had hundreds of detectors over it.

Honorable mentions include: two 1837 Hard Times tokens, 1797 draped bust LC, 1787 New Jersey Copper, 3 half cents, 17 Large cents, 19 British coppers, 1773 1-reale, and a 1697 William 3rd

Happy Holidays all and stay safe. May all your digging dreams come true...

Steve

I just had a good feeling buddy. You went out and killed it this season. You and Georgie's both. Your finds are nothing short of amazing. I look up there and think there should be at least another Banner under your name. Cob, big 8, Capped....it just goes on and on. What we don't see is the 8000 other more modern silver coins. Crazy good season pal. Wish I had had more time to hunt this season but the spoons, Spanish, and all the shoe buckles got me through. I hope next season is just as stellar. I will give you my thoughts for next year when I get home and dust off that crystal ball. I think our lil Italian buddy could do a top 88 this year lol

Btw I'm saving my year end post for a couple more weeks. I have this weird feeling that im not quite done yet. Something good is calling me. Hope the weather holds cause I may take Christmas week off and go find whatever it is that needs me to find it 88888888

My hat comes off for your year's top ten totals Scrappy. Impressive and very inspirational for many as it just shows that there is great finds to be found. Best of luck for the 2016 season may some of your finds embrace the header.

Amazing year scrappy! Abe really called that one. Excellent post and I really like your top 10 format. I cant even tell which ones I like the most since they are all awesome finds.

I have at least one more hunt under my sleeve, so I will be doing a year-end in a few weeks.

Those are some quality finds right there...major Congrats...that's a lot of digging..lol
Thx for looking. It wouldn't be quite as much fun if I couldn't share, as well as look at other finds.
That's so incredible! We see your posts and comment as they're posted, but to see it all in one single thread is awe inspiring. Stellar year and congratulations! I hope next year surpasses all of your expectations.
When I looked at the post I thought the same thing, just as when I look at others 2015 totals.
Just awesome, glad to finally get some context to your avatar
Yep, I pretty much lost my damn mind and took a selfie with the coin and moss. I'm surprised i didn't get pinched by the cops for hollering like a madman in an empty lot!
I'm so jelly, not sure if I want to, awww, congrats on a banner year! Great stuff Steve, you have one of the other missing shoes!
Lol, thanks Brad!
I give up, :censored: gonna sell the detector, no way I can compete with those finds. :notworthy: Congrats on a great 2015 :occasion14: and hoping for a better 2016. Still working on the old lady for a trip to DE in the spring or early summer.
Don't give up! You're killing it out by you! Let me know about your trip if it happens.
I would have said your #4 would be my #1 until you had to go and put your family in the mix. Now it is a no brainer why your #1 was your #1...Good call!...Brad
I just can't wait till the kids can go on all of my hunts. Those little nuggets get bored so quickly that I can't take them anywhere good. Lol

Steve it's been a pleasure hunting with you and I hope I get an assist on that buckle !
Your finds are impressive and the dirt has been kind to Hope next season is as good for you as this one. !!
HH gl. Eastcoast

Haha, you most certainly get an assist on that complete buckle Charlie. You're about as good as they come for hunting buddies. Cheers

What a year Steve.
You knocked it out of the park!!
And even got your first Banner.
The season isn't over yet.
We still have a few weeks left.
I heard your a fourth quarter kind of guy????

You had a hell of a year my friend... no telling what you'll pull next year!

My year will be complete if the Pats start winning again. A loss...to those dirty birds...at home?! My father in law just rolled over in his grave.

That's a pretty insane year of finds Scrappy. It would be hard to pick a favourite out of that bunch, they are all so top notch. The 8 reale gets me going, and the condition on the seated quarter is remarkable. But then the Washington buttons? But...but...then the George II copper...

Ok, I'll stop before I just list off everything you found haha. Let's just say you'll have to bust your ass to have another season that good, and I hope you do.

You're right J, it's a season that'll be difficult to top. The plan is to go into 2016 and just enjoy the Hobby...

Cheers bud

Thx bud. The silver count is still climbing so I'm not going to report that quite yet. Yesterday was this:ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1449678903.841916.webpbut I didn't post it.

I may hit 250 at this pace;)

As for our Italian buddy...he's going to need three posts for his year end. Lol

Steve

Thanks, can't wait to see your 2015 review as well. Looks like we have a little more good weather so maybe this year ain't over yet!!

Great finds! I like the sequence, and your choices for " bests". Good luck and Happy Hunting!

Top of the line for that year Scrappy

Curios scrappy. Awesome finds, in Minnesota we can't get that old cuz it's not that old. What are you swinging? Congrats on multiple banners
