Detecting Help

I usually hunt arrowheads but lately with no rain and less places to find them. I’ve decided to swing the Metal Detector for a while. I have a couple of questions.
#1 What’s the best pinpointer for the $ and waterproof and also rechargeable I’m thinking is a good choice.
#2 the soil is red clay which might as well be red bricks by how hard it is. What can I use to get through it to retrieve the target? I tried a hand digging tool which got me down maybe an inch. Hard pan is usually 6 inches.

I’ve used an auger like that for planting tree seedlings, but not for detecting. Seemed to work OK.

I’d be worried about damage, as far as pinpointers the one that came with the xp deus ii has been great for me, mi 6 if i remember right, it’s waterproof, floats, long battery… can’t compare it to the Garrett though because I never used one but seems to be the standard. I also forget the shovel I use maybe someone here can help but they are all steel, powder coated, come in several shapes and handle configurations, American made has an eagle stamp… I used to use a sharp shooter and bent blades and cracked handles, I haven’t been able to hurt this new one yet

I saw a shovel that looked like a saw on the edges. It looked interesting

I think the M-4 would be a cheaper choice since he doesn't have a Deus ll. The Pinpointer is are rated at 80 hrs between charges.
The Garrett carrot are a reliable one also.

I found rain works the best on clay. 🤣
There's the rock hound hand picks is a good ground chopper.

I believe that’s a fine choice on the pointer already showed the wife for a early Christmas present

Think I’m gonna try the cordless drill but just go at an angle. I’m telling you the soil here is super hard.

I like my M4 alot. Holds a great charge , a few sensitivity settings too.

X2 on the XP Mi4 pin pointer. Best one I've ever used. I like an Apex hand pick for hard ground.

I use a Vibra Probe 585, it has always worked great for me and you can go diving with it. They are a bit expensive though at around $150.00

I know someone who has one to sell. Going to look at it tomorrow and decide. Says it vibrates instead of beeping. He is asking $40 and if it’s any good I’m buying it.

but i also going to use it at a old train station when iam detecting. one area ive got good coin hits, but a pick wont even dent the ground.
as for the pin pointer i use the 13 dollar one from ebay it hit on a coin at about 3/4 of a inch and uses a 9volt battery. gp-pointer

I haven’t quite decided on what to use I will go to Homedepot and check out the options on digging tools

We are getting a lot of rain today so hopefully the ground will be softer. Owner said she found a bunch of old horse shoes. I’m hoping it might be a campsite for the Civil War. Found all kinds of beeps along the tall river bank. I’m hoping it’s mini balls
