DETECTING in the WATER on the TREASURE COAST

I've been detecting on both southern florida coasts for over 20 years and haven't seen swat yet ! lol, but I have been pushing my luck lately, especially with some of the finds I have run into in the shallows that are well over 50 years old

I was out at Corrigans today, beautiful day but water was too rough.

I'm bringing this post back up because I like to search for modern jewelry in the water and live just North of Melbourne. I want to know how I can check exactly which waters I can detect. (I mean the water near the shore). Some of the older posts say that 1/3 mile north of Sebastian is safe. But there is a company that was looking for a possible 1715 wreck well north of that. The Radar Wreck site as it was called. If that company still has a lease, doesn't that mean it's possible we can't even detect the water that far North? So this is getting ridiculous that people can't search for modern jewelry in the trough (where the water is touching the beach) in so many secrete places. If my metal detector can get confiscated for touching water so far North of Sebastian Inlet, why can't the state post current lease holder sites and show us boundaries and gaps of the limits?

So Seafarer Exploration who was recently active North of all that doesn't now own a lease that bans detectors touching low or hi tide? Does Seafarer Exploration not have the same kind of lease in Melbourne Beach Shores as the leases that are South of Chucks Steak House?

You would have to reach out and ask, the ones I posted are only leased sites I'm aware of. I personally would have no concerns hunting starting 1/2 mile north of Sebastian Inlet.

Seafarer doesn't have a lease. They have an arrest area (Juno) and a couple (maybe just one) permit through the state. That arrest and the permit have offshore boundaries and don't extend onshore. Safe to detect there as long as it's done according to any local or managing agency restrictions.

No one has an exploration or recovery lease on a Florida beach. If you can walk it, and no city ordinance is posted saying otherwise, you can detect it. For the sake of getting along with those of us who have leases or subcontracts for areas offshore, please keep your ankles dry.
With that said...get 'em.

Exactly, well put...Even on the Treasure Coast beaches you can hunt from the toe of the dunes to water's edge, just can not put coil in the water if it is a leased area, rest of Fl. beaches you can hunt in the water.

Some of the best treasure can be right under your feet and just out of reach for detector.

Why cant anyone tell you where the lease sites are or know where you can get a map of these sites...every time someone mentions it, people say you will get arrested and your machine confiscated...how are you supposed to know where they are if they aren't marked or there is no map for them?...Ive seen this question asked for years and no one has ever given an answer...here, Ill give you an example...Where is the Northern boundary of the lease sites, at what point can you go into the water north of Sebastian...maybe some people know and they wont answer.
It was so long ago I forget the details. But I tried going through the channels and getting a claim on a shipwreck where I’d seen a massive windlass while diving just 50 yards off shore in Massachusetts. My claim was denied because the “buffer zone” around my site area overlapped the “buffer zone” of another claim which was actively being recovered. Two separate ships mind you. Then I was notified the other party had interest in what I’d found and would like further information. Pffft. Like that was gonna happen. For what it’s worth, I humbly advise to tread lightly around claims, as the authorities will take the side of the people holding a claim. You can get a copy of any claim by request. I forget the actual department name, but I’m sure I asked at the department of marine fisheries and they hooked me up. No pun intended.
