What will that do to your warranty?

Nice idea. I was thinking of doing the same with my Deus 1 when using the waterproofing kit.

Since the plastic part that has to be drilled is replaceable and inexpensive, if it ever has to be sent in under warrantee it can be easily replaced first.

Your "Mod" will actually hinder the detector... how much i cant tell you...
What you have done is created a problem / interference with coil.
The wire needs to go straight up / away from top of detector then in shaft.
Otherwise... wire is interfering with coils full ability.
For one sensitivity will be effected.

Also... you are creating a "bend spot" in wire that will cause the wire to fail prematurely.
Too sharp of a turn and coil pitch / movement will ruin wire.

I will suggest if you redo that the hole in HIGHER area of shaft should be drilled at upward angle as well... so less bend in the better. 6 inches at least high entry point.

How would running the wire inside the shaft make any difference at all when compared to the way this antenna wire is intended to be installed -- wrapped around the outside of the shaft?

ITs NOT your wire running in shaft that i see as your 2 main probs.

Its the "entry point on shaft that is the problem... that makes wire too close to coil,,, it will still work and MAY have zero effect...
Detector wires should not be directly "on" coil... after all they are made of metals... so do the math.

The other issue i see with the wire entry point also has to do with being too close to coil... this will cause wire to pinch and bend in a more "severe " way... possibly leading to wire short / failure over time and in situations.... wires should always be "slack /laxed.

Everything matters... even like on Garrett's its recommended to wrap wire clockwise.

Some may argue my statements... but after decades of dealing with detectors in hard core ways ... you learn a thing or 2... but... do as you will. :)

ARC: Do you have one...a Deus 2? If you don't - then you really don't know.. 6 hours at the beach - NO problems with the wire installed inside the shaft...

Dude...It's a piece of speaker wire...it ain't failing so quickly and if it does it's chump change for a new one. There's ZERO interference. Have you tried it and gotten interference?

No i do not... i use tools... not toys. :)

its not "interference" that can / perhaps be a "problem"... its the lack of depth AND sensitivity that can be affected.

Instead of a pissing contest just some some info would be great. Hey Extreme , I’m in Jersey too and just wondering how the antenna mod has worked out?Wanting to do the same . Thx

What hole diameter is necessary for the wire to pass through?

Steve

i did this mod to my d2 works great

heh

What size of hole did you drill?

Steve
Looks like the OP hasn't been back for 5 months now.
Simple work around post up turned into something else. :dontknow:

It appears that way...

In any case, if anyone has tried this mod, I'd really like to know the size of the hole needed for that wire to pass through. I'm designing a Deus 2 shaft, and am thinking about including a hole in the remote-control mount, similar to this mod, but I don't have a Deus 2 in hand right now, so if anyone knows of the hole size needed to allow that wire and its "connector" to pass through, I'd appreciate it...

Steve

Steve, that square shaped plastic end on the antenna will just fit in my 3/16" drill index, or #9 if you're using numbered drill bits. I would imagine that you're going to want to make it a little bigger for a grommet maybe? The antenna cable is in a fairly hard plastic sheath, but, anything will chafe after a while.
