What I know is basically contained in this thread and another MD forum which, as I understand it, links or even mention of the name are not permitted.

The consensus seems to be, so far, that the update will mostly concern the integration of a new coil and pinpointing device. Whether that is true or not remains to be seen.

cant wait til Sunday to see if anything happens, I am a gold prospector as well and this v4 update seems to be focused on that mostly! 18khz is ok for gold hunting but the 30 and 40 will be nice to try. I do own a Gold Bug 2 as well running at 71khz but im sure this will be nice.

More than 2" range for a quarter sized object would be counter productive.
We already know its approximate location with the machines pinpoint, which is why we have dug a hole at that spot in the 1st place.

The pinpointers function from there is to help precisely locate the item, and hopefully avoid any damage to a possible valuable metal object.

Will be interesting to see what it offers. If wireless, priced sky high and aimed exclusively at XP users, hard to see it making much of a dent in an already well populated market. You'd think they would want to break out and offer something everyone can use, maybe they will and offer 2 versions.

edit: True about interference, both the XP and garrett were falsing pretty bad when they got close, but a little freq bump on the XP pretty much took care of that.

I havent had much bad experience with my Carrot and the Deus but I learned to set my detector a bit away(a foot or so to my side) while I probe with the carrot, otherwise its all good. The XP Deus will have to be similarly priced to the Carrot somehow for it to dip into my wallet. The carrot is perfect for my needs with the 3 sensitivity settings. Like you, I feel the need for depth on a pinpointer is.....pointless :P it is to zero in on targets aka "pin point" also who the hell needs discrimination on a pinpointer? That is one of the rumored features.

I wonder will the pinpointer work stand-alone? Not that I want one, just wondering if it's going to be universal.

Depth for me is just another tool. I've found a nice way to integrate TRX depth into my hunts. Sometimes it's the last piece of the information puzzle...and itxs better to have and not need than to not have at all concerning depth.

Discrimination could be handy, but not critical on any pinpointer, imo.

Don't think I'd care for discrimination on a pinpointer - I'd rather know that great quarter signal is really a rusty halo effect nail than left wondering and/or expanding the hole in a futile attempt to find what a normal pinpointer would have already found.

Really, sometimes things are best left alone. The concept on a metal pinpointer is ultra simple, trying to add nifty new features that can actually be counter productive will only jack up the price.
Then again, no sense ranting until we know what we are dealing with here, I predict wireless and not much more to separate it from the garrett, price $275.

DONT know about that we will wait and have to see. First thing is Deus NEVER said it would go out at the rally publicly! It was leaked to me by someone who works for them and I was told it was Not going to be publicly announced before hand. I dont think its true but hey what do I know. It would be a disaster if it was ! lets give it a few days, they said Sly Stalolone died a week ago man I thought rocky died it wasnt true!

I just perused through the discussion board of the official "XP Summer Gold Rally" FB event. While the pinpointers are in the flyer image still, they are not in the latest prize and raffle list posted on Sept 12th... it lists everything from the flyer, except the pinpointers. My thought is its not releasing this weekend. Again, with all the official XP information I have read in the last year on the "other forum", I'll believe it when I see it.

Looks like they are releasing the new Elliptical and the old 9" in 15khz, 30khz or 55khz.... thats different than whats been reported so far.
