Went to a great estate sale this morning. A guy I see at every sale was there and for the first time talked to me and asked me what I like to buy. I said I like it all. He is a tool guy and always runs to the garage or basement. I am a tool guy also but never lead on. He beat me to the tools and was flipping through them like a crowd at a supermarket when a new batch of corn on the cob comes in. He didn't look for more than 45 seconds, " all crap here" and leaves. I grabbed a wood box with about 15 hammers in it that he had glanced at. The first I saw was a real nice Cheney nail holder, then another and then a plum autograph. Good stuff. then saw the yard stick behind some shelves hiding and smiled. Right under the tools was this NOS horse shoe set. And the vise was in the corner with the rakes and stuff. Also got some axes and 2 boyscout hatchets. The vise was $20, Hammers $1 each, Yardstick $1 and the horse shoe set $10. The K&E compass set. $7. NICE.

Nice buys. Thanks for sharing...

That Reed is a beauty and a beast. They happen to the second most numerous vise in my collection and I use one every day at work.

Yours is one of the earlier styles of vise, before they redesigned the operating rod retainer nut and changed the casting profiles

Good stuff! Guy was in too big a hurry or a know nothing to start with. A woman running an estate sale once told me; "You're a close looker." Yup, that's me...

Nice haul ! those yardsticks with the holes get good money .
