Didn't read the sign (caution: contains expired rodent)
My little buddy, Scruff, often brings me "mouse treats" when I'm sitting
out here in my shop. I don't mind the gift, but prefer that he terminate
the poor critter before dropping it at my feet. (he either thinks I'm fat and
need the exercise, or he's just being a cool cat and sharing his toys..)
In order to abate the problem, I explained the new rules to Scruff,
and as a reminder I placed a very understandable sign over his
cat entrance. Problem solved...or so I thought.
2 nights later he's snoozing in his bed on the bench behind me, and
I look over and see a mouse crawl in his cat door...Scruff saw it too..
The rest of this I wouldn't believe if I hadn't see it for myself...
Scruff jumps down, corners the critter in a matter of seconds, and
takes the mouse right back out the cat door! Less than a minute
later, he comes back in with that "I just screwed the neighbors cat"
look on his face, crawls back in bed a goes to sleep.
An hour later I walk out of the shop, turn the corner and see a recently
deceased mouse..and it's really, most sincerely dead. Scruff had taken
it just outside the door, and summarily executed the rodent in front of
the sign the mouse apparently didn't stop to read...
