Has anyone ever filled the handle of their scoop with construction foam? It's air and water tight...it would seal out pretty much everything. You would never have water accumulation in the handle and it might reduce corrosion and sand buildup too.

Any Thoughts?

Yeah, I thought about the air hole...what kind of oil are you talking about EDDE? Epoxying the hole afterwards is a good idea.

Beep..... I'm going to get some two part expanding foam the next time I'm near a marine supply store .... I took a 3ft. piece of 1in. pvc and tried to fill it with a can of expanding foam from Home Depot ...was unable to fill the pvc pipe,the foam expanded before it reached the bottom....with 2 part expanding foam,you pour equal amounts from each can into a mixing cup,mix quickly and pour the liquid into your handle...foam expands and fills handle to the top...be prepared for sticker shock,expanding foam is not CHEAP...and I can only find quart size cans when 1/2 pint cans would fill several handles...if you can figure out how to fill your handle with construction foam, please let me know..Rdi

Very good point rdi. I had thought of this and the only thing I could think of was to attach a thin tube (about the same size as the one that comes with the can) and lower it to the bottom of the handle and fill the handle as you pull up the tube. The tube would have to be at least 40" long, of course.

This would also negate the need to drill an air hole.

I have a fish tank and have some extra tubing...and it fits perfectly. Thanks EDDE! I will give it a try tonight or tomorrow and let you know.

It is apparrent that the operation has been successful. You will know if you put too much in because it will overflow the exits. I apparently did alright, although there was some slight excess after filling (better than not filled enough). When/if its overfilling, place/insert some screws into the holes to force the foam to expand where you want it to.

Great idea for a scoop handle.

I know that folks do the same thing for fish lannding nets also. They claim if you foam the handle and drop the net out of the boat that it will float.

Hey Beep....I shot some spray undercoating on the inside and outside of my scoop. It waterseals it and makes it easier to grip in the Galveston surf. HH Gayle

Yes Comes in a big can @ WallyWorld. Does not add flotation, but does seal out the rust, and helps with the grip. HH Gayle

Can you use the truck bedliner spray on your searchcoil?

I know most use epoxy on their coils, but I don't see why bedliner stuff wouldn't work, unless it had any metallic content.
