Typically I am detecting in the old woods where there was once a farmstead. Forests have taken over these farms 50 - 100+ years ago. Hunters leaving shotgun shells for decades litter these areas. I can easily dig 10+ an hour of old brass shotgun shell ends if I was crazy. They ring up as a mid tone in the gold zone. I disc them, but still end up with a pocketful every hunt.

Yesterday's hunt, in VA, park with woods near my hotel, couple homesite dots in woods. 10k adjustable ring, missing the mounted stone or element. I've found adjustable rings before, but they were dime machine variety. I wonder how old this is, what was on the face and if the pattern has any significance?

FYI, I'm still not digging all mid tones in the woods, I'm not that crazy.

Good luck out there!

Gold in them there MID TONES

I can't imagine a gold AJUSTABLE ring :laughing7: But hey, gold is gold, and I'VE NEVER dug a gold ring in 32 years of metal detecting.

Congrats on the gold ring, I'm sure that was a shocker after digging shotgun shells. Hopefully you can pin down the manufacture date

Thx, it definitely was a shocker when I started wiping it and saw the 10k stamp. Who would have thought...

A gold keeper in the woods makes a spectacular hunt! Good job!

Thx! Part of the woods was obviously recent party central and littered with all kinds of beer and liquor bottles. I had to head deeper into the last dot to be able to swing clean and quite shocked to pull a gold ring.

Congrats on the great ring.

I dig every mid tone I hit. I dig a lot of pull tabs and trash but I have gotten some really nice rings as well.

Thx! Where I dig pull tabs are rare, or maybe just masked by the shotgun shell brass I disc....

Nice finds! I'm guessing whoever had this ring either found it or got it from someone else.....maybe no money to have a jeweler re-size it, so cut it & bent to fit their finger?
No matter, nice gold ring!!

Yes sir when your in the woods and targets are scarce, you dig em all. I love a big solid mid tone with a tight or solid target ID. Congrats on pulling those 2, :occasion14: they look to have been pretty far from the houses.
