Digger Shovel

I want a small shovel and think I have decided to get the Little Eagle mini Sampson. Lesche. I am only five feet tall, if that. We went to an old playground and used trowels. I had to put on gloves. Was getting a blister in my palm. I need something good and sharp and don't mind bending down to do the digging. I try to go after a rain, but that is not always possible. (can't wait that long), Also, I think it will not draw so much attention as a big shovel? Anyone have one? Do you like it?

I like this one. It seems to be holding up well and it makes really nice clean plugs. Its the only one I have ever used though so not much to compare it to. I purchased it based on price and weight as I couldnt afford a ton of money and I wanted something relatively light weight.

I have the same shovel but I cut it down some and cut teeth into it basically copying the tooth pattern of a chainsaw and that little booger cuts well and is helpful as a cane to help get up off the ground. Ive also used the bigger version of it for field hunts and did the same chainsaw cut, ive sold a few to fellow club members and they love them. Beats spending $80 on one of the raptors etc.

I use a 18 inch garden trowel that I bought through Amazon for $12. Weighs less than 2 pounds. The digger part is 6 inches long, and 4 inches wide, which is just enough width to allow me to kick it with my foot to dig my plug. This allows me to recover my targets without having to kneel.

too much attention from the looky-loo folk lying in wait when you're hunting a park.

I had an extra Lesche that that I "extended" with an oak dowel rod and it really
saves the hands from blisters.

I had an extra Lesche that that I "extended" with an oak dowel rod and it really
saves the hands from blisters.

That's a cool mod. I'll try that. I agree with using a digger that doesn't draw a lot of attention. I use a Lesche and I have pretty tough hands but it still gives me blisters at times. For park hunting, a cheap survival knife works pretty good, too. They're only a few bucks at Harbor Freight.

Generally speaking I use it with the Etrac in fields, but it will cut a real nice plug in a yard too.

I also use their Piranha when I'm out with the GPX5000.... Great tool but overkill unless you are digging 10" minimum with each hole. You can't go wrong with Predator tools - they DON'T bend, so I can't imagine actually breaking one would be possible.

Scott9050 , I just saw the shovel at Tractor Supply . It's $19.95 here in Butler . Still a great buy for how sturdy it looks . But , I do agree , I only carry diggers bigger than a trowle when I hunt fields or woods . If I carried a full size shovel in a park or private property , I would expect to be escorted out and told to never return . JMHO

Home depot sells this little shovel can't be 2 feet long and is about 4" wide with a D handle...$10 so I bought it. Being so small it does attract much attention and beats getting down on hands and knees trying to dig out a plug with a trowel or blade.

I inquired about about one their tools being shortened, the response I received was they dont do custom, I was wrong in assuming some of Mr George Lesche's tools were made in China and he immediately flew off the handle, he responded with a very insulting email. My China comment was not made in disrespect, merely pointing that Americas Industry has migrated more towards foreign manufactures for cost savings. I know this first hand the company I worked for for over 15 years moved to China, simply for cooperate greed. So Im scratching anything Lesche off my list, not a very good business man in my POV.
