Trevmma and I decided to dig in KY. Well, our inaugural digging weekend in Frenchburg, Kentucky turned out to be alot of fun. Our hosts were top notch. Every night we had freshly smoked/chargrilled steaks and chicken.
I learned many valuable lessons last weekend, including the need to pack a LARGE bottle of ibuprofen!
Here's a pic of my buddy trevmma at the cabin finishing up a sifter build the morning before the dig:
Here's a couple shots of the rock shelter we dug at (yes, on private land):
Sifting all day long!
Our gracious hosts:
Digging in a small hole of the shelter:
Here's a rock formation we nicknamed "Balancing Rock":
Our first dug find, a broken blade of some sort:
A group shot of all of our finds from the rock shelter:
Close-ups:
This broken point would have been thinner than a saltine cracker if completed!
On Monday morning, we left the dig site and headed to Northern Kentucky. Here's a few pics of the field and our finds...
Cleaned up field finds:
All in all, a great weekend filled with comradery, great food, cool finds and great weather... The flint is amazing in Kentucky. We have a bucket full of flakes to prove it!
Let me know if you want better pics of any pieces!
Thanks for taking a look,
Shane
