I remembering reading that dime boxes containing plastic wrapped rolls were not good producers. Because of this, I've tended to stay away from the plastic wrapped rolls. Of the few that I have searched, no silver was produced. Have any of you dime vets out there seen a difference in silver finds between plastic or paper wrapped rolls in boxes?

The only reason I like plastic wrapped rolls is I don't even have to open them. Any time I see a coin that looks silver then I pop the film.

There should be no relative factor as to weather paper wrap or plastic wrapped
Dimes produce. It is simply a matter of weather silver finds it's way into the system. Plain and simple.

For me I have to unwrap all versions to return them as I use a coin counting machine at my dump bank. As Dan noted above it's much easier to search if your returning rolls but I would think banks would grow tired of you buying a returning rolls of Dimes this way because it would be to obvious that you are not using them.

you should try to dump at retail stores :icon_thumright:, the clear rolls sealed up... most would love it i think...

i have found a few in clear wraps, found paper to be at least 1 per box, clear to be like 1 in 4 boxes

I only get plastic rolls because thats all my banks carry. I rarely get a skunk box, average about 2.5 per box, and have had up to 22 in a box.

Apparently, there is no rhyme nor reason. Personally, I would drive around town to avoid those clear Brinks rolls.

My oldest dime came from a plastic wrapper , also just got an Indian head last week in a plastic wrapper.

I just searched two of the big $500 boxes of dimes with the clear plastic wrappers and found nothing but an Iranian 1 Rial coin from the 1970's and a bent 2005 lincoln cent. Last week I did a $250 box of the paper wrapped rolls and found four silver.
I would say paper wrapped are better from my recent experience.

nice
last time i saw an iranian rial was when i was in kuwait in '93 and '97
got a pic?

Though I am just three weeks into dime hunting , I will l offer my results here as well - My very
first box of dimes was paper rolls and dreamy at 40 silver rosies , the majority of boxes since
have been plastic wrapped rolls , and have averaged between one and two silvers per box . For
my money , the plastics are way easier , both to locate the silver - for obvious reasons - and to
return - many banks will just cash you out after counting the unopened rolls . At 5 silver dimes
for every 90% half , I think it's easier to deal with dimes all the way ! I have had numerous
days when I got skunked on halves - I don't believe I've had a skunk day with dimes as yet,
though I don't doubt that I will before long - Almost every bank I go into , has boxes of dimes
in house - halves are nearly always a special order - and when it comes to keepers , they are
all 90%-ers -- no 40%-ers to mess with . I guess by now you can tell I'm a true believer in
dime hunting . Argentium.
