DIY point restoration?

Anyone have any info on how to restore points? google turned up nothing but the guys who charge.

I am assuming wax? but how do you paint wax?

Does it just involve filling in the missing area and learning to paint with a fine brush?

The quick-&-dirty way is auto body putty, carved when set to imitate flaking & painted.

You can also use epoxy to make up whats missing, the hardest part is color matching.

JB is epoxy, I tried it on a dew points, and used a dremel to add "flakes", its pretty easy. Like I said the painting is an art. I aint an artist.

Modeling clay or wax I would think. You can mix color right into either till you got it right. And you could easily "unrestore" it if you'd ever want to.

I found a point that was hit dead smack in the middle by a 22 cal bullet..The site I hunt is on the beach. The mound has been eroded by weather and forms a nice high bank. Several people target shoot on the beach, using the bank as a backstop..

I kept all the pieces that i found & filled in the rest with white playdough..it matches the chert pretty good
