I found this ornate box last night. Looks pretty old and is cracking in many areas. The question is: do I open it to see if anything is in it? The simple answer is yes of course, BUT i know it will destroy the cool box. What would you do? Looks more like a lighter.

I wanted to say that it simply looks like an old cigarette lighter. In which case it would just have rusting parts and dirt inside. But the 2nd pix makes it look like no lighter I've ever seen. Like perhaps it's a metal form of a match safe or a metal "coin purse" ? Open that puppy up !

Not a lighter. ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1486308048.855613.webp

I would think it may contain the ashes of jimmy Hoffa or maybe a $10,000 dollar bill. But speculation will get us nowhere, so I say open it and find out.....

Can't wait to see what's in it!

The top part looks like a separate container to me.

Forget about opening it. Put a strainer in a sink and run water through the cracks. Anything inside will come out it looks like

Interesting find, congratulations! :icon_thumleft:

Open it ,

found a small pill case that contained 4 19 th century coins a few years ago .

Heck yeah...open that puppy up! The suspense is killing me,

Clearly a match safe, cool find!

Looks like an old match safe, you'll probably find the remains of some old wooden matches and mystery

That would have already been opened if I found it. Lol
Open it...

UH UH!
The pattern in the case is an old language. It loosely translates to:

DO NOT OPEN 'TIL CHRISTMAS!

:treasurechest:

:tongue3:

Unless it rattles ,all you might find is an inner flat spring.

Neat find though!

Do NOT open it. Thousands of years ago a young woman named Pandora made a similar mistake with a box she found. :hello2:

My curiousity would get the better of me. I say open it.
