I have several with displays and several without. While I disagree with the notion that displays are "useless" I do agree that they aren't really needed. I go by the sound and the discrimination setting first and use the display last when deciding whether to dig or not. I use the display to help decide mostly on good grass in lawns and parks where one should be as careful as possible to avoid leaving noticeable traces. Bottom line for me is if you like 'em use 'em. If not, don't. . Sort of like standard and automatic transmissions in our cars. Drive what suits you. I've seen several threads on other forums on this subject that went on to ridiculous lengths with no real purpose. To me the choice of a dig and beep machine versus an ID machine is strictly a personal choice - not a wrong or right one. My two bits.
