Narrowing it down a bit, it's Spanish colonial, Philip V (1700-1746). I don't think that shield design was used after 1734 though.

Diameter would help establish its denomination.

Something like this: Phillip II shield type Spanish cob:

Use 27.5 grams as a weight guide to an 8R coin denomination;proportionately lower for the 4 2 &1R.
Don.

That appears to be a 'V' after the end of PHILIP but the workmanship is sufficiently poor that I would think it must be from a provincial mint.

pictures are pretty poor, but it sure looks like a pot metal fake to me

Could well be. He was using an old flip-phone to photograph it. I will try to get some better photographs later today.

I take it back as being Philip V... It's the 'V' of 'PHILIPVS' and it does look like Philip II as Don says. We still need better pics (especially for the letter to the right of the shield) and a diameter.
