Does anyone know what kind of metal detector this is?

[Dusti123]

Hi guys, I'm new to this webpage... I recently came across this vintage metal detector and can't seem to find anything about it online. Does anyone know if its worth anything or just anything about it in general? Thank you!!!

Found an ad in Popular Science from 1971

I liked the ad , it tells of all the treasure it will find but fails to mention all the pop tops and pull tabs that go with the territory. I bet there are collectors that would like to have that early machine .

True, then again, all the newer detectors fail to mention all the pop tops and pull tabs that go with the territory in their adds as well. I'd also bet collectors would like that thing just for show and tell I guess, I would. I wish now, knowing what I do, that I had one of those puppies back in 71-72. Boy o Boy what might have been found in the places we've been.

Mine was very similar but a different brand in the late 1960's. Its still in my garage. It was pretty much junk and constantly drifted. Basically, cheap transistor radio technology.

Just walked out to the garage and took a pic. Oh, the junk we save!

This was around the magic 12.98 or 14.95 or so amount that a kid would spend (waste) from his lawn mowing money in 1967-68 or so in response to those ads in the back of 10 cent comics or grandfather's Popular Mechanics. I believe the Big 3 - White's, Garrett, and Fisher were making real detectors back then, but the prices were out of reach for kids.

Note the "if a little is good, a lot is better" application of epoxy to the junction of shaft and coil.

That one was a BFO (Beat Frequency Oscillator) which consisted of a very weak, cheap transmitter and a receiver that was nothing more than a poorly constructed transistor radio that had to be tuned to the correct frequency.

that looks exactly Like the one My Grandmother Used in Florida in the
Late 60's or Early 70's That she Lent me When she woulds come back for the Summers.

was the One that Got me Interested in Treasure Hunting.

super cheap but I did Find a 1919 Penny First time out with it.
And seemed to Be super Deep at least a Foot .
Off course I was about 13 at the Time. So digging in Hard Mining Road,
was a Chore. Was probably only an inch or 2 deep

Had one of them Transistor Radio Ear Plugs in at the time.

When I think back, it was Surprisingly Stable for such a Cheap detector.

It wasn't the one in the Box though. It was shaped like the one in the ad
