Hi everyone,
I am desperately seeking an underwater detector. I have heard amazing things about the tiger shark and sand shark models. I know there was an unfortunate leak problem that Tesoro has been working on. Has anyone heard if they are any closer to fixing and reproducing these models? Do Tesoro have an active submergible model on the market? I was looking at the Garrett AT Pro, but am a little worried about the falsing problem that has come to light.
Thanks,

Slow down xmarks and take a breath.
What kind of water hunting are you doing or
how much fresh and how much salt water hunting .
The Tiger shark had a connector problem not a leak problem that
i know of, but it been a year now and still a problem.
If you are in salt water only or mostly the Tigershark and the AT pro
would not be my first choice. Thy will work but there are better salt machines out there.
The sand shark is a PI machine and PIs do well in the salt but you might not want it
in fresh water or dry sand as thy have very little if any discrimination.
You might want to research some more before diving in and getting
a detector that does not fit your stile. Luck Mike

LOL yeah that does read a little winded. ;D I will mostly be hunting in fresh waters with the occasional ocean vacation. Thanks for the reality check Gmanlight. What you said makes perfect scents. I was trying to digest everything I have read without putting the details into perspective.

Well if mostly fresh water then there are more options.
Keep in mind most water machines are on the heavy side.
The TS is one of the best fresh water machines but again the connector problem.
If you could wait a bit and see how more reviews of the AT pro go
it might be a good fit .
The AT is a lighter , can change coils , works well in iron and there can be
plenty in a lake and a very fair price.

Tesoro has nothing else that compares to the Tiger or Sand Shark. The only other options are buying a used one, but after the service issue posted, I would be leary. I'm looking at a waterproof detector as well for saltwater use, not much out in the under $1K range other then the AT Pro, Whites Surf PI and the Detectorpro Wader.

There are many options if you are not going to take the box under the water. The old Fisher 1235 or 1236x2 is a very cablable detector that has a long coil cable so you can mount the box under your chin for waste deep water hunting. They even work pretty well in the salt water if the concentrations of salt and black sand aren't very high. Just don't trip and fall.

For water detectors you have the Fisher 1280 and CZ-20 & 21, Minelab Excal, White's Beach Hunter ID, Detector Pro wader, Surf PI Pro and Dual field which are PI's, and of course J.W. Fisher Pulses x6 and x8. Garrett has the two pulses, the Infinium LS, Sea Hunter Mk II, and the new kid on the block, the AT Pro.

Which one is your fav. fresh water detector, sandman?
Thanks,

Xmarks73, I like my Excal 1000, CZ-20, and Tiger Shark equally for fresh water and as soon as the ice melts I am going to play with my AT Pro. Court is still out on if it will become a favorite. :coffee2:

Hi,
I have the Tiger Shark(s) and an excal. The Tiger hits better on chains and smaller gold. But both great detectors!

Best Regards,
Steve

Well i got a Email from Britt Smith of Tesoro.... He said no date when the water units will be back in production...... But something is in the works to get them back out there soon.....

Something has been in the "works" since day one.
I can not believe Tesoro is missing so many sales by letting this one little problem kick their butts.
I really ... really ... thought they were smarter than that.

Anyone can point out a problem ... so ... here are two solutions..

#1 - Make the Tiger and Sand Shark with a non-interchangeable coil and headphones like the competition does.
Offer to later retro fit the coil and headphone waterproof connectors (original owner only) if and when they become available.
Charge a service fee to install them on any second hand used detector.
How many Tiger Shark user actually changed the coils anyway?

#2 - Buy some waterproof connectors from Garrett.

There is a saying that goes ... "there is a point in every project where you need to kill the engineers and start production".

Or perhaps they were having too many problems with those detectors and spending to much service time working on free warranty repairs they decided there was no profit in making them anymore.

Willee your statement is so true. Now with the AT Pro out and price point
its in direct competition with the TS. Tesoro has no excuse for this problem still existing.
If thy want out of water detectors just pull the plug.
Death by paper cut is a tough way to go.

Here is one Tesoro Tiger Shark fix done for a member. The Tiger has it over the AT Pro in that it has a true all metal mode, fast and slow response besides the disc setting. Maybe what we need is a waterproof Super Lobo............. :headbang: :sign13:

Also the AT Pro does not at the present time have any coils with long cables so we can hip or carry them from our neck or even to use longer shafts.

Sandman the TS might have HAD it over the AT Pro at one time but
since thy cant get past the connector problem it does not matter.
Yes i saw the fix on your post above but Tesoro does not seem to want
to go full scale that way either.

Sandman , I will say that the lobo Super Traq would make a super water detector... If water proofed..
