I found an old foundation today. Near the foundation is a cellar hole and a well.
Covering the well is a piece of tin with this rock on top to hold it down.
On the rock is some kind of 'J' symbol--Notice how the 'J' isn't crossed all the way at the top. Is this some kind of directional pointer?
(I metal detected around the old foundation, cellarhole, and well and found lots of shell casings, part of a kerosene lantern, and some iron junk....nails, sickle mower parts, ect.)

There is also a neat outcropping of rocks near this place that might be worth mentioning. I'm going to post a picture of it, too.
See what you guys think and please let me know if it is anything!
Thanks for looking---I'll have to reply to this post a couple of times to get all the pictures loaded.

Several questions, Please indulge me as they are pertinent.
What relation is the outcrop to this set up?
has the rock on the steel sheet moved (in your best estimation)?
How far is the rock formation from this does the top of the J point to it?
Is this place frequented by a lot of people?

The outcrop is northwest of the rock with the 'J' setup--The rocks are strange--they just popup out of nowhere, that's what made me curious about them. I found the old foundation after I found the rock outcropping. I'm going to post a frontal view of the rocks, Old Dog. Whe we go back, I can take some distant shots of it if need be.
The J points toward the creek which is about 300 or so yards away. No people.....Most of the land surrounding this is just grassland. This place hasn't been occupied since the early 1900's[maybe late 1800's].
You asked "has the rock on the steel sheet moved"---Do you mean has it been moved or does it move? No, it hasn't been moved, I didn't want to move it until I asked what it was for.
Thanks Old Dog!!!

A lot depends on the signs possible on the outcropping, and the trees that are there as well.
check in a circle graduating larger around this area and see if anything else shows up.

So, the next thing I need to do is check the outcropping---we just looked around the base and not on top of it.
There are some huge trees in the area, Old Dog....Looked to me like a couple of them were hackberry trees. There was also some old dead trees[still standing], and and if I remember correctly these trees were triplets---three of them planted together. I didn't look closely at them, but will when I go back. I'm so excited! Thanks for all the help!! :hello:

The top of the rock would really be where I would look for anything interesting including he rocks that's laying on top, getting the exact degrees and possibly looking underneath making sure to place it back in its original location.Take photos of the edge of the rock looking down

Thanks dsty! We'll take some photos and post them.

Some new pics......1st picture is of another 'J'----Is this just a natural mark or real? Am I just seeing things that aren't really there? ??? :-\ This mark was found to the NE of the rock outcropping about 1000 yards or so.
We also found another pig rock--this one looks like a razor-back hog. We've got trails leading in every direction :tard: . Is that how it usually works?

Odd marks on a tree....My sister is 5'10" tall and couldn't reach them. Are these also just something natural or manmade?

Sandcreek4,

Since the mark repeats itself 3 times I would lean towards man-made. The tree also has 3 limbs that were cut around killing the limb that I can see in your pic. The tree behind and to the left is interesting to me as it looks like 3 or more upright trunks/limbs woven together...if so I doubt it is all coincidence.

Oddrock

Sandcreek:
Your photos are really interesting. The 3 marks on that tree are at about the height for a man on horseback to easily see.

The picture of the large "J" just above is definitely man-made. The parts are square ended like pointed out with the small arrow. That large arrow indicates a mark that is part of this symbol site. Don't ignore it. I'm posting the negative of your pic for a clearer view.

This other photo might be a corner triangle so shoot a back azimuth along the red line, too, to go with your forward heading. The headings of the 2 straight sides should also be recorded and plotted.

Good--that's what I needed to know, oddrock. Yes, the tree behind does look like it has limbs woven together. We'll go back and take some pics of that. Tell me what it means when they cut the limbs to kill it? Is this another directional?
THANK YOU.

That tree photo has a very interesting optical allusion in it. The small tree on the left with the gunsight limb that passes BEHIND the trunk of a tree that's 30 feet BEHIND IT. How does that work?? Is that gunsight limb actually on another tree farther back and the little tree up front perfectly hides it??

Was that diamond shaped rock / metal plate just laying on the top of the ground?? Glad to see you didn't move the bar with the compass line, when you uncovered it.

Someone far more knowledgeable than I about KGC symbologies needs to comment on the "J" and it's accompanied bar. That goes for the marks on the large tree, too. Gunsights are pretty straight forward, even for newbies like me. Look though them, in BOTH directions for more clues. You may have to follow compass headings through them to some more clues. Those clues could be in feet; yards; chains; leagues; or miles away.

Okay--now look at this view, Shortstack, in the order they are listed. This is the first rifle site tree we found. And it pointed to the tree with the three marks on it!

(And that diamond shape rock was just laying on top of the ground, but I uncovered the iron piece with my metal detector(it is an old log splitter/wedge) and it was found across the creek from the rock outcropping. This iron wedge was found following another trail :help: .)
And thanks, Shortstack, I always appreciate your input---it makes me look at things closer!

Sandcreek:
This is the rifle sight I was talking about with the optical allusion limb that appears to go BEHIND that tree trunk way in the background.

I didn't even notice that one, Shortstack....We'll have to go back and look at that. There is so much going on at this place that about half the time I think I am imagining things ::) . Its been a learning experience for sure.
Thanks for pointing that out  .

I cropped it in a little closer....I can't tell or remember if the tree is just like that or if its another tree behind it making it appear that way. We'll go back and take another look at it and see if we can get some clearer pics.
In the meantime here's a closer cropped in version:
