Well this has a long story so lets see if i can shorten it. This is a junk yard that my grandfather worked at as a teen. The old man that owns it is still alive and pushing 100. Also we is very tight, money wise. To the point that we could never bring himself to scrape anything.
Well i went there a few weeks ago and as always was taken back. The yard was shut down in the 70's and other than what little his sons bring in and out nothing has moved.
There must be 200-300 old mustangs, 200 or so belairs from the fifties and more and more and more. I asked the old man how many cars there was, he said when he shut down there were over 10000!!!!!!!! i WAS ABLE TO TAKE SOME PICS BEFORE THE CAMERA DIED

Wow Thanks for sharing. I used to rebuild old cars and like someone said pull up the back seats. You never know what might be under them. There was a dump near me like that unfortunatley it covered about half of an 1863 New York camp.

Well i know enough about old cars to be dangerous i have talk to the owner and we may try to some to some terms this weekend on letting me scrap parts, glass, chrome, odd motors. As far as treasure hunting we said go for it, that as far as he knows no one has ever looked!!!!!!!

If u get a chance ...Please gets some more pics of the better cond. 55-70 cars ,,any vettes One important thing, "be careful" ,besides old coins there can be some varmits under the seats of the vehicles without glass."learned the hard way about that". esp. in the winter ,some bite.

Just think about this, he said there were over 10,000 vehicles!!!! Can you imagine the size of the property. There are so many vehicles there it would take more than one person to discover it all. Another question that i have is did he keep records of the vehicles in the salvage yard? When was the salvage yard opened and if know what is the type and year of the oldest vehicle? Inquiring minds really want to know!!!!!

Well i got answers!!!
The yard was opens in the years before the war. So late 30's the guy started it as a repair shop and then the yard. I was told there was a model A or two but only a frame to a Model T. The yard is around 80-100 acres and about 10 years ago his son scraped about 3-5 acres worth of car so some are missing. The majority of the cars are from the 50's-60's and the are a ton of muscle cars. Ill post more pics in a day or two.

Just another thought on places to look for coins in old cars. I have read several times about people actually using the gas tank as a bank. They would toss their change into the fill spout, then years later empty it out when the got ready to get rid of the vehicle. How many people either forgot about their "bank", or passed on before they could recover their stash??

Be carefull going inside old cars looking for coins under the seats. The floorboard could be paper thin from rust and age, and you could get a nasty rust cut on the legs, if you go through.

My friend found a small bag of pre 1950 coins in a old panel delivery van in the back door, it had access holes in the door, I guess to get to the lock. I never saw the coins, but he told me about it several years ago.

Wow;;; You have found what I have dreamed about. First enter into an agreement with owner then hire someone who is knowledgeable about what you have found and can estimate what each unit should be worth. Set up web sites and advertise in trade journals then wait for the orders.

If it is even close to what you have described you have a valuable find and remember that most of the units were probably towed in after accidents and would have many items left in them such a coins, jewellery, tools etc.

I envy you as if I had discovered this place I would be in hog heaven. Good luck.

I would love to spend a lot of time in there I know of a similar place near here that is identical. Time has taken over but there are hundreds of old cars hidden between the bushes and tree's. And the same story............the guy won't let anyone in it.....period. I don't know why people become hoarders of something that will rust away with time and you can't take them to the grave with you either!! You would think money would talk

I know of a place in Pennsylvania that has harleys/indians/arielsq4s/and other old bikes along with henryJs, et al covered with water. The guy that owned it all couldn't get them moved or out of the way before the place became a resevoir. He had barns with the old orange harley boxes of parts. The real deals before they became pushbutton honda wannnabes.

THose are some great looking automobiles in your shots. Relish the history.

Cool pics.As others have said check under seats etc....but also look for hidden compartments.I knew of a guy that had a bunch of old cars on his property and after he passed away his relatives found several hidden stashes of money in secret compartments that he had built into the old cars...mostly in the floorboards..I also read awhile back about a guy that posted a rusty old car on ebay with a starting bid of $500....sold it for I think over $1,000,000.
