Dolphin experts wanted

Today was another nothing day as far as finds go. We went to CWB again this morning and my finds were a big bust!

I got a sinker and two pennies! Oh yes and a pair of Levi sunglasses. Whoopee!

EmeraldEyes did better on clad. She got $2.90 in coins but no jewelry today.

BUT.... the high point of this morning were the dolphins! I've seen dolphins playing around many times but generally off in the distance. Not near me. This morning they were all around me. I must have been in a pod of them. There were two in front of me. Two off to my right side and several more behind me, at least two but maybe three or more. It was scary but exciting too. Wouldn't you know..... we did not take the camera with us today! WAHHHHHH Boy, what I wouldn't have given to have a picture of them all around me.

OK now for the experts. I know a dolphin can kill a shark but I also know there are many reports of them helping people in distress out in the water. My question is.... is it likely that they would actually come up to you while out MD'ing and touch you or harm you in any way? I think they are beautiful but I don't want to put myself in harms way either. I don't want to be stupid about this. This morning I worked my way closer to shore and got about knee deep but they kept pace with me. They stayed with me for quite a way never bothering me but some in front, some to my side and some in back. What a day this has been. OK so I didn't get any great finds but the dolphins out there made my day. WOW

I used to visit Mexico often when I lived here in Az before , we would go down to the Baja an the dolphins would come right up to you in the surf ,every once in awhile you could touch one as it went by but most the time they just wanted to see what you where up to an swim around you ,same with the Manta Rays .beautiful creatures.

They are just curious. Enjoy the experience.



Tourists pay hundreds of dollars an hour to be in the water with them... you get to do it for free!

No worries, Mumsie. You are safer with the dolphins than without. I know of one (only) instance where a dolphin hurt a human. Rick Barry was the head trainer for the old Flipper TV show. Late one afternoon he lost his temper and punched one of the trainees. The dolphin backed up to the far side of the lake, got going like a torpedo, and hit Mr. Barry HARD below the belt. Shows that training goes both ways.

Man that woulde be so cool to have them around you like that. I have always hear that they would't hurt a person. next time you go have the camera with you so incase they come back you can have a picture of them......Matt

The Dolphins are great enjoyment and a wonderful experience. I have been out numerous times when they have swam around me. Being 6'1 and usually up to my neck in water at CWB they are just curious. One day while detecting 2 college guys ran into the water yelling at me SHARKS SHARKS GET OUT!!!! and then tried to pull me out when the dolphins were around. I told them that they were D O L P H I N ' S you know like at sea world! They shook their heads like a 40 watt bulb had just been turned on. I laughed and continued my hunt. When I have days like that and only find coins, being out with the dolphins to me is like finding gold!

I would have to agree with what everyone else is saying, it's a great experience to be with those intelligent creatures. They are more understanding of us, than we are of them. No need to fear them unless you threaten them

you can be assured that when the dolphins are around you their won't be any sharks or other nasty critters around. So enjoy, they are very social creatures and love to show off.

You know I have to be honest about all this. I wasn't thinking about "having an experience" when I saw them. I was down right scared. LOL Maybe next time I won't be.... then again.... I'm a coward.
