did anyone else see the show about the woman in SLC that has 50K worth of food stocked in her apartment but is ready to "bug out" the minute the government takes over the government?

She's all ready to load it in her large frame backpack and hit the road along with her boyfriend that is an exseal/marine/sniper/gigilo and is currently teaching her how to hit the road with a sniper rifle she's competent with at 200 yards.

when her friends saw the stash she was saving, their eyes rolled back in their heads and you could almost feel the
nudge/nudge, wink/wink between them.

so, please do tell, is that actuality or somewhere south of reality?

A lot of unhappy, really confused people out there.

preppers live in their own reality obviously ;D

good prep is store enough to survive if you are stuck and stranded AND HAVE a bug out plan if required. if you have to leave it behind to save your life so what :D

you prep to dig in and survive or bug out to survive. gotta be prepared on both ends

many will wink/wink and nudge/nudge at others. that will never change but everyone sure has to live their own lives as they see fit

is it 'over the top'--for me yes.
for others--nope. they are under prepared probably

I don't know what would possess someone to reveal all their hidden supply, on national TV, no less. Everyone who has any idea where they live already know where to go to get food or supplies in a crisis. Good Luck. rockhound

I watch the shows and I feel most of those folks are over-the-top compared to what I feel would happen and what I would need in those instances. There seems to be one or two good ideas in each show though so I continue to watch.

Here are a few more tips fpr those who are contemplating doing some prepping. You don't have to purchase ann expensive vacuum sealer and bags if you don't think it will be used enough to pay for itself. You can use regular ziplock or similar bags to partially vacuum seal your dried and dehydrted foods. Simply zip it to one side and leave enough room to insert a straw or hand vacuum pump. Draw out the air and finish zipping the bag in one swift movement. When several of these are done, using a five gallon bucket, purchase the 5 gallon Mylar bags and use put one inside the bucket. Stack all the ones you have sealed in there. Press out all the air you can form the Mylar bag. Then using a heat sealer or hair straightener, seal the Mylar bag and make sure it is sealed. When finished, make a hole large enough for a straw or hand vacuum pump and insert it into the Mylar bag. Withdraw the air and fold over and seal the hole. It will be good for at least 20 years. Good Luck. rockhound

I do a bit of prepping but agree, most of the stuff is over the top. However, it doesn't hurt to be prepared and sometimes I hear a good idea or see an item I think would fit into my gear nicely.

Well, I live in the country on a winding little road and my home sets back 200' from it. I keep a good stock of canedgoods in the home and on my motorhome. I also have enough firearms to defend from the average threat. I have spring water which fills a concrete trough in the springhouse. I am in the process of designing a solar water heating system for domestic HW and heating. I have designed a new style panel that works on the laser principal. If it works as I suspect, I am in like flin.

Check out Ruger & Smith and Wesson sales, they are booming.

This show in NO WAY reflects the reality of those who wish to prepare.
It is as a realistic of a depiction as "American Digger' and "Diggers" are of us: sensationalized, obnoxious BS that highlights a small minority that are goaded into being as extreme as possible for TV.

I agree it's entertainment. Many of us think this could never happen here I'll bet several years ago if you lived in Grease, Spain, they thought the same way. Being prepared is a good idea to a extent. When the crap hits the fan the liberals will come in droves like in the T.V. series (The walking dead) It's o.k they make easy targets. dought if they will taste like chicken .:icon_biggrin::icon_biggrin::icon_biggrin:

I just read an article where they did a mockup of an actual severe disaster, one in which the participants were told that no help would be forthcoming. It was estimated that a 70% mortality rate was expected among those who were involved. In an actual computer simulation the mortality rate was even higher. These were randomly chosen participants from all walks of life. A pretty diverse bunch, just as you would expect form our society as a whole. In the computer simulation, only about 20% survived an actual disaster where they were cutoff from supplies for any length of time. As time went by, more and more died form other causes, such as dissentary and other diseases. Though both of these were only simulations, they were as realistic as could be evaluated from the data gathered. Good Luck. rockhound

We have to many people on the planet and it's only getting worse. Mother nature (with natural disasters, disease) or man made deaths on a mass scale will eventually happen. It's just a matter of when.

There won't be enough food, water or energy to go around.

Is there any truth in the rumour that the USA is to become the worlds largest padded cell? Jesus! ...If population paranoia percentage was factored into qualification for "superpower" status, America would come somewhere just behind Nepal!
Dunno why you bother...most of you will commit suicide within 2 months due to "internet withdrawel syndrome" anyhow! :)

The US just completed their sixth underground bunker. They are spread out over the US, mostly in the west, but some in the east as well. Don't expect to be invited in one of these when TSHTF. I know other countries have bunkers, some constructed during and after WWII. But they can't accomodate all their people so I hope you have a safe place to go. The worse thing that can happen if something doesn't happen is, you will have excess food to eat and clean water to drink. You can always share this with your friends who need it. Good Luck. rockhound

I'm not stocking up that much, maybe about a weeks worth of canned food. If something really chaotic happens it'll be dog-eat-dog. I'll stay low for the first week, then make an attempt to go somewhere. I will have seeds to start a garden when it becomes viable, but it'll be forage until then. Meantime, I'm not gonna worry too much about it.

You are right, all we can count on is for some humanity to emerge when it's dog eat dog. I do know that no hoard will be safe and all the guns in the world ain't going to stop the undead.

Heres a nice little news flash to make you think. The department of homeland security just placed an order for ammo, now get this, for 450,000,000 rounds of hollow point ammo.

I blow about 10% of that at the range in one outing ;)

(I'm just kidding, BTW) :)

Dont you wish JohnDroid lol. I hear the fema camps are accepting reservations, reserve your cell,i mean your room now. But there should be plenty of space, 1 camp in alaska is reported to hold 2 million.

Update from my previous post

[h=1]DHS won’t explain its order of 450 million hollow point bullets[/h]
After 9/11, the United States government created the Department of Homeland Security to prevent future acts of terrorism and deal with other domestic issues. Now in order to keep doing such, the agency is asking for 450 million hollow point bullets.

The DHS has signed off on an “indefinite delivery” from defense contractors ATK that will include, for some reason, nearly 500 million high-power ammunition for .40 caliber firearms. The department has yet to discuss why they are ordering such a massive bevy of bullets for an agency that has limited need domestically for doing harm, but they say they expect to continue receiving shipments from the manufacturer for the next five years, during which they plan to blow through enough ammunition to execute more people than there are in the entire United States.
“We are proud to extend our track record as the prime supplier of .40 caliber duty ammunition for DHS,” reads an official statement from Ron Johnson, ATK’s president of Security and Sporting, who adds that his group will also be giving up weaponry to the DHS subdivision of ICE, or Immigrations and Custom Enforcement.
While ammunition itself seems not too unreasonable of a request by a major federal entity that emphasizes domestic durability and safeguarding the country from coast to coast, the choice — and quantity — of its hollow point order raises a lot of questions about future plans for the DHS. ATK says they won their contract with the US government by being able to provide them with 450 million HST bullets, which it describes as “the next generation in high performance duty ammunition.”
What does that mean, exactly? On their website, the contractor claims that the ammunition is specifically designed so that it can pass through a variety of obstructions and offers “optimum penetration for terminal performance.” Or, in other words, this is the kind of bullet designed to stop any object dead in its tracks and, if emptied into the hands of the DHS a few hundred million times, just might do as much.
Since its inception, the Department of Homeland Security has not only absorbed ICE and other government entities, but has arguably extended its powers much more broadly than many had imagined. Under the recently authorized Trespass Bill, H.R. 347, protesters that allegedly disrupt occurrences acknowledged by the DHS of being a National Special Security Event will be charged with a federal crime. As the DHS gains more and more ground in fighting terrorism domestically, the US at the same time has turned the tables to make its definition of terrorist way less narrow. With any American blogger or free thinking on the fringe of what the government can go after under H.R. 347, or the National Defense Authorization Act that allows for the indefinite detention of US citizens without charge, the DHS could just be blasting through what’s left of its budget to make sure that its roster of agents across the country can get in their target practice over the next few years.
Of course, the government might just want to ensure that each one of those agents is more than able to assassinate Americans not just around the globe, but on their own soil. After all, for all of those angsty alleged Americans engaged in terrorism abroad, the US has the largest military in the history of the world to deal with them. In that case, they could argue that it only makes sense to equip their armed forces at home as well.

I have a question from the preppers expert's. Why did the guy builds his so-called spider hole in the middle of the road, why not behind a rock , Bush, tree.

This country survived after declaring independence from one of the most powerful countries on the planet.
This country survived two world wars and multiple conflicts
this country survived the Great Depression
why would anybody believe it would not survive future catastrophe disaster. Seems like were pretty residual with society
