✅ SOLVED Door knocker or something else?

Silver monkey said it resembled a door knocker first time I posted it. It's got a design in one of the half moons but it's got so much patina I can't get a good read on it.

You're killing me with this one Nathan. I know that I found something years ago and never figured it out. Now my brain hurts trying to find this one. What I had found was, apparently after seeing yours, was just 1 half of whatever it is. When I had the single side/half, I thought it was the twist handle from an old doorbell, the kind you twisted and the bell inside rang rapidly. Now, seeing both halves, I think I was way off. I hope someone on here can solve this for you, (and me).

That's interesting. When do you think book clasps were obsolete? Maybe it was just for decoration purposes

Not sure if this helps, but in the first pic on the right half I see 3 faint feathers and possibly the number 5. Look more closely and see if they are part of a maker's mark.

I rotated the first pic CCW 90 degrees and zoomed in on the top. Not sure what the "feathers" are but they seem intentional. The "5" might be my imagination...

I will try to get a pic of it where that full design shows up in the right light. It's still hard to make it out though but it's there for sure
