Enterprise here. I have been hunting the local area for a short while. I am interested in seeking permission to hunt the area where the Clintonville Academy was located. It is just north of Enterprise and is now a cow pasture. The school was started around 1850 ( I think) and was used until the 20's. Shoot me a reply if your interested.

Actually DFXScout I'm in Crestview, FL right now but the wife is interested in moving to the Dothan area. We will be leaving here around spring or summer of 2007.

Hello fellow Alabamians
Just retired from the army (Ft Rucker) and I am in the Andalusia Area. Got a Garrett
gti 2500 for Xmas. Noticed the ground down here eats copper right up. I plan on doing a little research and finding some old spots to hunt maybe the beach when it gets warmer.

I just joined this site after getting the detecting bug again after quitting for about eight years. To my surprise, I see fellow MD'ers here around Dothan, AL. I started metal detecting back in 1979 and have 100's of unbelievable stories to share with this site. I'm retired from the military and decided to get back into detecting. I specialize in beach and surf detecting and just ordered another Minelab Excalibur which I swear by. The last one I had, paid for itself many times over with the jewelry I found on the beaches in Florida.

If anyone wants to go metal detecting land, beach or water,just send me your email. I will be very happy to share my knowledge of detecting and the stories of many great finds. Great site and glad I discovered it.

Hello All
I am new to the Milton Florida area (near pensacola), I am also retired from the military
and getting back into metal detecting. I hunted for many years while stationed in the
Wash DC area and Hawaii. Last summer I got out to some of the beaches here, for maybe
15 times. Found a few gold items (rings and pendants), silver chains and rings and about a
100 dollars in change.

I would like to get with some other hunters in the area, northwest florida or southern alabama.
I like helping others learn the hobby and am always openb to learning new things myself.

I hope the beaches warm up soon

Tom, good to hear from another retired military guy. I retired from the Air Force back in 1996 and loved the times I spent traveling around the world.

I definitely would love to do some metal detecting around the beaches in your area and share some of our knowledge. It's such a rush to see a gold ring in the bottom of the scoop after shaking out the sand. The clad money is nice to, helps pay for all the gas we spend traveling to our sites.

What's your best fine so far on the beach. I was lucky to have two great finds spanding a two week period on a great beach in east Florida. The first one was a 1 ctw diamond ring which I sold to a dealer for $450.00. The next fine two weeks later was a 1.5 diamond ring that apraised for $5,500.00. I sold it for $1,900.090 to the same dealer. What's more amazing about these finds, is they came from the same area. It's good to be good but I'll take being lucky any day.

Keep in touch and lets get together when the weather warms a little for some beach and surf huntng.

Well here is another retired military guy (Air Force). I retired in May of 2006, still located in the Eglin area (Crestview) but hope to move to Dothan in the future. As long as I am here I will keep hunting the ocean with the Excalibur. I have only used it twice before the water got a little too chilly for my taste. Glad to see some more retired folks in the hobby!

Wow, I didn't realize their were this many metal detector hunters in this area. I'm dying to get out and do some hunting if this crazy weather would just improve a little. If anyone on this site wants to do some hunting, shoot me a quick email at reese@graceba.net. I prefer beach hunting but enjoy all types of hunting. I currently have an Excalibur but just won an Eagle Spectrum on ebay. All of the reviews on this detector sounds great. Can't wait to get it and hit the local parks and schools. I will be hunting Casino Beach at Pensacola Beach Island as soon as it is warmer and people start going to the beach. I also want to try Orange Beach this year too. I should be going 2 or 3 times a week, from May - Sept.

Old Tom, keep in touch and shoot me an email when you start going and need company. I love trying new locations and it is more enjoyable when you have a partner to hunt with. I'm completely retired now, and can hunt when the urge hits me or someone else needs a partner on a hunting trip.

Old Tom - It's 165 miles from my house to Pensacola. It's actually an easy drive, I just hit 231 South and then take I-10 right into Pensacola. Are you planning any hunting tips soon? I just won two detectors on ebay recently after reading so many great reviews on these machines. The first on is a Whites Eagle Spectrum and the second one is a Whites Eagle II. I'm looking forward to learning theses two detectors and having them as backups to my primary detector which is a Minelab Excalibur. I plan to use the Excalibur for beach/surf and the Whites in parks, schools, etc. Once I determine which of the two Whites is better, I might decide to sell the other one. These two Whites, even though older versions, have been rated higher and more reliable than some of the top of the line Whites detectors. Keep in touch and find that GOLD!

How about the other Alabama guys on this post any interested in hunting the beaches, Pensacola or maybe Orange beach AL. Should we plan a group hunt.
I have been hunting for over 20 years, my favorite hunting is out in the shallow water at good swimming beaches.
In the water I use the whites PI, I am also looking to upgrade to a new machine, maybe a PI Pro or there is talk of whites putting out a new water machine soon. I use a whites Eagle Spectrum for land hunting (dry sand or old sites)
I have been playing with the programs hoping to have one that will go deeper at the beach and still knock out bottle caps.

Old Red how much experience do you have? 165 miles seems like a long ride, but that is up to you. The beach I hunt here the most seem to have a lot of people there during the main beach season, may thru Sept. There always seem to be a few other people there detecting. last year I only got out about 15 times. most time I dug $5 to $10 in clad.
I dug 5 gold items and 5 silver. The beach had a lot of sand pumped up to rebuild after the hurricanes wiped them out. I also plan to check out some of the other beaches this year to make sure I am hitting the best ones.

I any of you guys really want to go, I can post when I am going on here and plan something. I am retired right now, thinking about going back to work, but maybe not until after summer.

Old Tom,

You can count me in! I'm totally retired now and plan to stay that way. I'm very experienced in beach and shallow water hunting. Believe it or not, fall and winter is some of the best times to detect the beaches. Can't share my secret yet on this until we have our first hunt. I enjoy hunting with other people and everyone having a great time and sharing our knowledge and love of this wonderful hobby.

Like I mentioned in my original post to this forum, I've been fortunate to find some unbelievable items on the beach and in the surf. I also love to land hunt for old coins and relics. Got a ton of stories to share on the finds I've unearthed since 1979.

I have an Excalibur right now and two other detectors, a Whites Eagle II and a Whites Eagle Spectrum. If any one needs to use one during our hunts, I would be more than glad to let them use one of the Whites.

I've been monitoring the weather, and it looks like next week, we'll have a nice warming period in the panhandle.

Set some tentative dates Old Tom and let's see who would is interested.

I bet that water is cold right now, I have been going to the gym since november, trying to get the weight back down so I can fit into my wetsuit, I might have to just get a bigger one.

I know the winter/spring tides can make cuts into the beaches, but I am not sure what impact all that sand they pumped up on te beaches. Yes next week it is suppose to get warmer, I might have to try the dry sand and see if there are any good deep cuts.
