Hi All,

I found this piece of wood last weekend while searching for Civil War relics. Also found my Eagle Breastplate so pretty much forgot about EVERYHING else. :o Well, The wood gave off a huge solid tone so I knew there was more than likely a bullet inside. However, the wood showed no entry points and no way to peek in. So I carefully made a sharp cut all around the wood and used a small wedge to spit the wood. For all I knew at that point it could have been a modern slug. Anywho, to my surprise it spit perfectly revealing not one but two 3 ringers shot into the same piece. One mini is in plan view and the other is pretty much dug in deep. Looking from the inside you can see how both mini's came in from the same direction and the tree grew around them. By far this is a cool piece of history. The wood is now preserved and Ill be looking for a nice frame to mount it. Thanks for looking.

HH- Ronin

Nice digs!! Was that piece just laying in the woods? Did you hack it out of a log? As I picture trying to drag a log out of a digging site ;-) So.. I already carry a digging tool.. a shovel and a pair of clippers for roots and a champion Swiss Army Knife w/ a little saw blade.. I guess a chain saw is next!! That is worthy of a shadow box all by itself!!!

That is very unique.... you are the 2nd person I have read this week that has found a bullet in wood..... I guess it is going to be bullet in wood season ::) Great breastplate also.

God bless

Ronin,
That find is soooooooooooo cool. That has got to be one of the best finds I've seen posted since I've been a TN member. You preserved it beautifully too.
You can bet a lot of folks will be running their detectors over wood now. ;D
Fantastic!!!

Hey MonkeyBoy,

It was about 7 -8 inches underground. Most of the log was mush but this part is very preserved. The soldier may have been shooting from behind a man made log barrier. That might explain the closeness of the shots. Either that or they were bored and having some target paractive?
