Double pointing

This morning, I found a 1965 dime about 5 inches down. Considering the age of the park in question, that's deep! Always one to recheck my holes, I got an even louder hit almost the same number (76 on my Vortex9). Close to 8 inches down, up pops A 1954 wheat. While not a 'real' keeper, it does reprove the old technique of rechecking your holes!

Yes, always check your where you just dug and near by.

Reminds me of a day in the mid 1980's. I had a metal detector shop just down the street and stopped in often, usually on my way home after a hunt. One day early evening I stopped in on my way home and there was a customer, the shop owner and one more local all having a time at the counter. I of course walked up to see what the fun was about and the customer had rented a detector for the day and went to Denver's famous Washington Park (coulda been City Park) He detected a target and stooped down only to find a plug already cut. He pulled the plug and the target, a pull tab, was still in the hole. He put the pull tab in his pouch, repositioned the plug, got up and swung over the spot again. A few inches deeper was a 5-dollar gold liberty coin. It still had dirt stuck to it.
Needless to say....I've dug a TON of pull tabs from our big parks. I have been rewarded with wheats before as well but still looking for that gold coin.

If my memory is correct, it was City Park. There was a skate rental place just two blocks south on east Colfax (City Park Skate Rental). The owner talked about that find for several months after it occurred.

In the 1980s, not all Denver, parks could be detected without a permit. My son still lives in the area, and he says most Denver, city parks are closed to detecting nowadays. The last Colorado city I detected was Pueblo. Only problem is now, you almost need an armed escort to be in any Pueblo park, daylight included. I'm assuming it is still the murder capital of Colorado?

Interesting. I obviously don't know if it was the same find and not sure why the customer that rented a machine on the west side of town would tell the owner of the shop you speak of...
I've lived here my whole life and have detected many Denver parks and never been bothered by anyone. I have no permit and never have. I haven't been out to one lately but every once in a while, will get out to Sloan's Lake Park and try and eek out a deep silver or a rumored gold ring loss. They did new cement sidewalks around the border not too many years ago. I tired doing the excavated areas after work hours. Best I got was a few wheats and a Denver Tramway coat button.
