Dragging Canoe Chief of Chickamauga- North Carolina - 1770- metal detecting drones?

Hi all!

An ancestor of mine fought with Dragging Canoe and the British circa 1770 around Gowen's Fort, near Greenville, NC.

Rumor has it my ancestor was also a horse thief, plunderer, etc. and buried treasure somewhere aroudn the HOgback and Glassy Mountains

Each of these areas has been harvested for timber many times since 1770, so searching for Native AMerican symbols on trees probably won't work.

So I'm wondering if any of the experts on this forum have used metal detecting drones?

Also as I've been researching these areas, Greenville Watershed staff told me I'd have to send them my genealogy in order for them to let me walk in the water shed.

Happy to do so but seems like a metal detecting drone flight would be better suited for this project; no?

So, you might consider jumping over to Sub-Forums: Select Your Area.... and selecting location information (i.e., clubs, hunts, finds, legends, maps, etc.) directly related to your state (or country).

Your ancestors is bloody bill bates, willing to bet youre a fellow dark corner resident. I’m very versed in his revolutionary war exploits and personal affairs. If he died a horse thief that was penniless, isn’t it fair to assume he had no hidden wealth? He had a wife who moved along the NC border soon after his execution, I would try to find out exactly where. If you are interested in searching I recommend the chestnut heritage preserve. Metal detecting isn’t permitted but the trails will take you to the base of hogback. There are some granite caves by the south river. There are bent Indian trees and stone fireplace ruins. If anything it’s a great walk

You have an awful lot of odds stacked against you.

I was not aware that a metal detecting drone had been invented, would like to read more if you turn anything up. I am aware of some companies that can map terrain through trees etc via satellite.

As kimballfount pointed out if your ancestor resorted to being a horse thief then he likely went back and recovered his loot unless he forgot where he buried it.
