Found in a park with no history of Dragoon activity, but they did travel all over this state so this could have been lost when they passed through on the way to somewhere else.
An unusual design and no back mark either but the most knowledgeable Dragoon site hunter I know says he believes it is genuine from maybe the 1840-1850's era.
I can't find an exact match so even though Dragoon relics are rare, maybe this is a very rare one.
Good enough for me till I get proof it is fake...and who would fake a Dragoon cuff button anyway?
Not a huge relic hunter but I will take them when I find them and I am thrilled.

That's a great looking Dragoon button.

Thanks!
It came out of the ground that way, just a little rinse and there it is.
I thought about trying to get it cleaner but I don't want to wreck it so I think I will just leave it alone.

A pic I just took in the sunlight.

That button has great color on it,glad you didn't overclean it.

Awesome button..as is

I have ruined a few things in the past.
Not this time, this will look fine on display just the way it is.

Great button - would love to dig one up . . . !

Cool Dragoon button! The Dragoons explored all over my state (Iowa) years ago. I unfortunately haven't found any of their relics yet.

nice button. They are right up there with the Riflemen buttons.hard to find. Not saying it is the case, but it wasn't uncommon for soldiers to wear their coats and stuff even after the war,a possibility it could have been lost that way?

Nice button. I'm not a fan of cleaning a copper/alloy or brass finds with water it tends to dry it out, just lately I have soaked my finds of material like this with a vegetable oil, it stops that dry rough effect left by water...anyway nice find.

Hmmm... I've never had that problem with water maybe it's because I use distilled water and not tap water with chlorine in it

Very nice button!

WTG on the button it's in really nice shape.

Great Find with your initial in the Middle, It came out Beautful from the ground, I still need one with an ( R ) in the middle-goldnugget

The Dragoons did ride around this area, the Sante Fe, California and Oregon trails ran though here and I believed they traveled the Sante Fe and Oregon trails at least.
Thief scythe second odd find in a public park for me here in NE Kansas.
I once found a NY militia officers coat button here also.
How that one got here I have no idea.
