Dredgers kill Salmon

[Bonaro]

This pic was taken on November 20 on the Skokomish River in Washington. The tribes, wonderful stewards of the land, netted these salmon, stripped the eggs for the Japanese caviar market and dumped the rest including all the males. Nothing else was used or saved. All of this was done with the blessing of the State and Feds.

You should feel good about being locked out of the rivers so the salmon could be saved for this higher use.

Now someone please just try and lecture me about bashing the poor tribes.

Sure hope you sent a copy of that pic to the weenies at WDF&W there
in Olympia. Same thing went on on the Skagit, and what used to be a
huge native run of Chum is now down to a trickle..hopefully enough
for escapement.

Bonaro...we should let folks here know that most ALL of the salmon
fisheries in and around Washington are under "emergency closures"
for all sportfishing due to low return numbers. We can't even wet
a line, and the tribes are out there drift netting the rivers.

It looks like those are Chum on that carcass pile..can't tell you
how much seeing this completely chaps my ass.

Ain't got a damn thing to do with the tribes historical "rights"..
.....it's about greed, and nuthin' more.

Yep back in the day before uncle cracker came along, when spears and basket traps were hightech what kinda price per pound you suppose they were getting in the lucrative Japanese Egg markets, top dollar I'm sure. Years ago I was on a fire in the Hoopa ( we were not welcome to say the least but thats another story) At night we would camp on a bluff overlooking the river and watch them use their traditional aluminum skiffs and outboards to stretch traditional monfiliament gill nets, with traditional plastic corks and lead from one shore to the other. Effectively "corking off" the entire river, all night they'd work the nets with their traditional spotlights. Pretty sure it was a ceremonial event based on all the hollering and partying. I got no problem with subsistence harvest, if it's done out of necessity and not for profit. What those pictures show and what I've witnessed on the Klamath is in no way shape or form traditional subsistence harvest. It's a government sponsored illegal inland commercial fishery. Why is this not on the national news? That photo should be shared with every enviro group out there. Let the planet savers see who've their bedfellows really are. Fricken makes me sick. There is actually another part to the Japanese connection concerning our declining Salmon numbers and their Joint Venture fishing just of our coast year round, but hey keep on blaming the dredgers.

And, as much as it stinks, there's not a damn thing we, or anyone else can do about it.

The Boldt Decision is one of the most iron-clad documents ever written,
and it's been challenged from every possible angle. Odds are it will never get overturned.

The other major player was our former governor, Christine Gregoire, who, by legal edict,
made the Washington State based tribes "Co-Managers" of the entire fish resource.
Their biologists can tell the state and Fed. biologists to go pee up a rope, and
there's not much that can be done.

For clarification: I am sure that none of us here, including me, feel any negativity
towards Native Americans, or Native Tribes. At issue here is the management
of our fisheries..some of which are hugely important to the nation. There are
tribes in Western Washington that are essentially pillaging (with extreme prejudice)
the migratory fish stock and shellfish.

These tribes have no honor, and it is those specific individuals that are profiteering
from the wanton destruction of our Salmon, Wild Steelhead and crab populations.

Also, as a direct consequence of the dangerously low fish returns, our rights
as miners are even more restricted. It ain't our fault, but we also pay the price
for their greed.

They're not all getting away with it, however.

The Wildlife Director for one of the most guilty tribes was recently arrested
for poaching shellfish for commercial sale:

......But, wouldn't it be nice to have team green going after them rather than partnering with them for a change? Team Green is also Team PC,if it becomes public common knowledge that this abuse actually does happen and goes unchecked, well maybe they'll find someone else to pick on who actually lends credence to their "calling".

I agree. I bet there are people in the native community that don't like it either. If it gets out beyond the area it could be changed maybe? One time we were camped on a river near the coast and woke up to shotgun blasts and yelling went to see what was up and it was natives fishing and shooting at sea lions or seals I don't remember and I was amazed that they were allowed to do it nets across the river etc? and WE HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT DREDGING its ridiculous..

It was brought to my attention later today that the pic was actually taken November 20, 2013. The rest of the details remain true to my knowledge and the fact is not erased that this practice is common and annual. This particular dumping attracted a lot of attention and the tribe defended their actions and choices

This year in all rivers and tributarys that drain to Grays Harbor, all sportfishing was closed on October 30 and remain closed now due to low salmon returns...but the nets are still out.

If anyone has known a Native American Indian living on a reservation like I have then they know these Indians are greedy **** ups. They get restitution checks from the government and don't have to work. Where I live they also get checks from the casino on their reservation so they really don't have to work. About 90% of them are drunk or high 100% of the time. They are greedy **** ups.
