Dug a colonial pit

My digging partner and partner in life in the third picture. Found this 1801 large cent, my first draped bust, looks good but need to clean it, also 7 buttons and a shoe buckle frame. Pewter spoon, bullet, tooth. Clay pipe, pottery

Outstanding dig with a very nice assortment of late colonial period finds. Most of the artifacts appear to date to the late 18th century, but a couple of those pipe stem bores that are showing appear to have larger bore diameters than would have existed at that time which could mean a little earlier occupation at that site. You can measure them using a drill bit, and then date according to the chart shown below (from Hume's "A Guide to Artifacts of Colonial America"). Click on the chart to enlarge. Great job!

Some light electrolysis for about 15 minutes and the put some metal polish on coin and brushed it with stiff brush for a minute, then rubbed the coin on rag intensely until I saw no more black coming off the coin
