🏆 Honorable Mentions:
1
Detector(s) used
Whites Silver Eagle, DFX, Shadow X-2
Primary Interest:
All Treasure Hunting
This year has gotten off to a slow start. I can only manage to detect on Sundays, and I usually end up at sites that have already
been hunted. I've basically been picking through what leftovers the other detectorists have left. One, maybe two silver dimes
a hunt, with a few Wheaties is all I've managed to get each time I go out.

Finally hit a site that looked virgin. New tear-down in an older part of town.
Dug a nice shaped 1944 Merc, then this little lady popped out of the ground. 1895-O, my first key date dime, and I didn't scratch it with my shovel!
Only thing I did was do a quick peroxide bath, and rinse with water.
Still has a smear of tarnish, but I'm not risking any more cleaning.

Paying for it today, while at the site, I discovered a cistern that had only been covered with clay.
One second solid earth, next second I'm crashing to the ground. Luckily not all of the top had collapsed with me,
which gave me enough time to maintain some balance. Very odd sensation, to say the least. Sore as hell, but it was worth it!
Carl

Nice dime, Carl! Did you get this on Eliot/3-5? I missed you by a day....3 guys in dodge PU's were there probing and finding a privy and trash pit, etc. They mentioned you and Cindy were there yesterday but they didn't mention your mishap.
Glad you are OK, thanks for sharing and hope to see you out someday. Jeff

No, I was there a little before they got there, and detected, but the area had way too much tear-down still remaining.
One of those guys was the one that I mentioned that fell in a cistern.
I dug the dime off Broadway.

Awesome dime... This is the same dime I got out of a dollar bin years ago as my first silver dime. I didn't know it was a rare date until I got older and looked into things a little more. Condition is about the same a yours too!! I like your digging it up yourself story better though...:cool::D

Congrats one the key date! I have yet to find one....congrats!

Congrats on that nice score

Nice find! To get rid of the fact you cleaned it, take a handfull of silver coins and put them in your pocket (designate one pocket so you dont accidentally spend it) and walk around for a month. It is a circulated coin so it will be fine.

Uncirculated Barber dimes with that date can fetch close to five figures...helluva find

Nice find! Nice price as well...

Good job Carl !!! Congrats on a sweet dime . if you weren't dancing I'm sure you were strutting ! Glad your safe on the cistern ,,, but if you had to be rescued ,,, would you have dropped enough bottles to actually grab the rope 8-)

Shoes, pants, underwear, not a prob. Bottles? Depends on if they were from Colorado!
Now I just need to dig some decent bottles, managed a McCook Neb medicine, a Dr. Kilmer Swamp Root Cure, (not remedy), and enough plains to go target shooting.
Maybe tomorrow.
