That is a link from a stud-link chain. The stud in the middle of each link is for extra strength in an application where the chain would most likely get twisted.

Many anchor chains are of this type. Not to say that this came from an anchor.

Chains are a general purpose item and there is no telling what this particular link came from, or was bought for, unless you find more links with some type of "telling" attachments.

I would think it unusual to find just one link....Hint hint.

P.S. That link looks to be a lot older than the house.

A link from an anchor chain would be my guess too.
Although the ones from memory I would use for comparison are MUCH bigger.
They were almost 8 feet.
USS Forestall.

Nice find!!

Hello Old Dog, I'm sure the anchor chain on the Firestarter was a lot larger. Back in the day, when I worked for almost a year in the Brooklyn Navy Yard, I walked past a big pile (3 links) of anchor chain every day.

Bluze,

They sure were big, I know that.
Was Part of a drop off team that was pretty much confined below to a given area.
Rode the Forest Fire one time.
They dropped me off in the dark.

Go figure.
