Dug my first plate today, need help

Went to my favorite spot after work today. Oldest item to date at this site was a Jackson Victory flat button pre CW. (Location: Southern suburbs Pittsburgh) Decided to hit a flat area a hundred yards from the old stone foundation. The signal was between beer can and silver dollar, normally would pass, but not many signals in this
area.

you never know what it could be before you dig it! 3 years ago ,I dug a US plate up here in NH.It was probably brought back from the war with them,no fighting here. Love that button :icon_thumright:

I feel pretty comfortable with the ID on the plate. The book I got the pictures from is the bible on US plates. As far as restoration, you could contact Roland Frodigh. He straitened this Virginia militia cross belt plate for me. Here are a couple pictures from before and you can see it in the group picture after. He got it flat as a pancake.

Found a pick online of the 1907 N.E.A. piece I thought was a button, it is actually a stick pin. Also am doing some research into the plate. I guess this is the Brass piece in the center of the shoulder straps at the center of the chest. Would this have been issued just as polished brass or gilded?
