In my neighborhood, there is a current trend when mom and dad pass away to just bring in a dumpster and toss everything in the house that no one in the family claims. Been through three of these dumpsters in the last month, and loaded 1/2 of my 12x40 storage unit with my finds. Just now sorting through some of them. First box yielded 13 pieces of silverplate and one sterling silver tray. Sold the tray yesterday for $225. figure to get another $50-$100 for the rest of the silverplate. enclosing pics of all the loot spread out, and the tray. Will post more as I open more boxes.

I have no problem with dumpster diving, but I don't know if I could do it in my own neighborhood, after a neighbor or a neighbor's loved one passed away. I am not trying to "get on a high horse" that is just something I would have a problem with. But congrats on the finds anyway.

Yep---you scored some silverware and stuff---cool----but I'd feel a little weird digging out stuff from my neighborhood especially if it was someone's stuff that I had known or the family knew me----But I see no reason to let silverware go to dump if you can get it without any hangups---JUST SAYIN'

You're saving the stuff from the landfill and making a profit...I'm good with that!

whoa that first pic made me dizzy......lol Hey that seems to be some nice finds tho.... :headbang:

Looks like nice finds! You are actually taking stuff the owners don't want and finding new homes for it and recycling AND making money at it to boot. I love dumpster diving but my wife hates it. Reminds me of a while back when I lived in Kansas. Our town had an annual spring cleanup week when everybody put all their unwanted stuff at the curb and the city hauled off whatever was left by the time the garbage truck got around. It was basically a free for all. I got some really nice stuff, its amazing what people throw out but one year I bought a house full of stuff and spent a week going though the house sorting and throwing out what was junk. I lined it all up on the curb of both my houses being careful to place anything people could use in the front and bagged up all the trash. The piles were about 25 feet long and 3 feet high. I had to go out of state the week before pickup and finished just in time for my trip but returned the day before pickup and when I got back people had dumped out every single bag all over my front yards. I spent half the night re-bagging all the stuff so the garbage men would take it in the morning. I guess what I'm getting at is that I have no problem with picking, wherever it occurs as long as people are neat about it. I kind of wish people did that kind of thing where I live now.
Again Nice job.

:headbang: WTG, I would have no problem with going through anyones trash, or anyone going through mine!. Once its on the curb or in the dumpster, its no longer Privet property and anyone can claim it!!! :icon_thumright:

It seems that's a popular thing down here too, I've found some pretty nice silver in dumpsters lately. I'll have to pull some out and get some pics tonight. Good work finding it, it would be a shame for it to go to the dump!

I do the same thing around here. When they have big trash pickup I go around town looking for the goodies.....Matt

If the family of the deceased is throwing away items that they don't want, I see nothing wrong with taking anything that they cast off. Apparently, they didn't want to be bothered with selling it themselves, or taking the items to a Goodwill or Salvation Army. As they say, one mans trash is another mans treasure. I applaud eckstar for his resourcefulness. :hello2:

I'm with all of those that agreed with your diving. I see nothing wrong with it in any way. I know I would get in a dumpster for $200+!! :icon_thumleft:
Not to mention, you saved some beautiful pieces from becoming part of a land fill.

what the heck, you did the right thing. Saved landfill space and made a buck or three to boot, I offer my congratulations and a BANNNER nomination :hello:

:icon_thumright: Awsome diving I am sorry but if you throw it out Just it you threw it away it is anyones to take, If I am around I an going to take it all and sort through it later with noone watching. Great job man :hello2:

I once found a set of silver and gold commemorative coins put out in the trash by the daughter of a neighbor who had passed away.

It never ceases to amaze me the amount of perfectly good items that people regard as worthless these days. There are many other options that can be considered before a perfectly good object just gets tossed away! :o

These pieces are amazing! Nice save eckstar!

Dave
