Hello All !
Got out to my new area today, It's been pretty good to me.
First day copper, 2nd day Silver,
Third Day, a 1850-60 'Scovills Co Waterbury' 20 mm Artillery.
Next comes Gold :icon_scratch:
Tice AY215A61.
Most of the military buttons I've found are Artillery :dontknow: Eagles & Cannons.
When I dug it the A was pretty clear, should have left it as found, after Hot Peroxide, only a shadow of the Right side of A remains :'(
Most of the other detail is good :hello2:
Also got a buckle with some age.
An old style brass padlock.
The pair of brass hardware may have held a nautical instrument, wearmarks show
that something swiveled between them, possibly in the glass piece from the same hole. (compass/chonometer?).
and another flatware handle similar to yesterdays RX find.
A pic of the yellow clay substrate here, Buckle on pile.
Thanks for looking & HH to all!

Great finds. How do you like your E-trac?
SKD

You are definitely going to strike a Colonial coin at that site. I am focusing on that early-1700s shoe buckle frame. :icon_thumleft: Hit that site hard, Herbie.

Thanks for your reply!
I switched from safari to Etrac, took a bit to become aquainted, but now it feels like it speaks to me. has great depth, I'm amazed at how deep some of the targets are.
Mike at Woodlanddetectors here will give you a great deal and all the setup & advise
you could want, mike@woodlanddetectors.com

Very nice finds there Herbie! :notworthy: These two are my favourites. :o
The buckle looks really old and I think it's great that you found both parts of the brass bracket!

Cheers,
Dave

Nice finds. Sorry about your cleaning method on the button. I use Aluminum Jelly as it takes the gunk off and leaves the patina. Works great. There is a post by Buckleboy called HOW TO CLEAN BUTTONS in the Cleaning and Preservation on this site that gives some excellent advice on how to clean buttons. One of the best I have seen. After reading his post I cleaned some buttons that I had that needed to be cleaned and was amazed at how well it works. Give it a try next time and you will see how well it works. You have a very promising site and can't wait to see you next finds. I included a before and after picture of the back of a button I cleaned using aluminum jelly. The green gunk was on there like concrete but after a couple applications using a toothpick to scrape this was the results. Congrats on your finds and HH.

I found mine at Ace Hardware. You will find it at the cleaning supplies in the hardward section next to the brass and silver cleaning supplies. There is another one called naval jelly but I hear the aluminum jelly works the best. Let me know how it does for you. I am very impressed with the results. And read the How to Clean Buttons post in Cleaning and Preservation by Buckleboy. I hope this helps you. There may be other cleaning methods but this has been the best I have found.

Also Mike is a hunting buddy of mine and I would recommend him to anyone looking for a machine.

Hammered is right on, as usual. The large U-shaped piece is an oar lock. The oar rested in the U and the hole at the bottom held a pin that kept the oar lock from jumping out of its receptor. Infact, those two brass pieces you're holding may very well be the receptors for the oar locks, which would have been bolted to each side of the boat. Fits right in with the nautical theme. Great finds....

Nice finds :icon_thumleft: looks like a great spot , i don't know how you do it the cold and me don't mix :laughing9: Good hunt  Jim

Good digs Herbie. Your a trooper. :icon_thumright:

Thanks for your replies!
Great Id's, got a few of those rowlocks over the summer,
Gotta love the harp shaped one.
get a signal, sweep the rocks aside with my boot, & underneath is smooth clay,
all the rocks sit on top.
Cold ? Yeah, a bit, I wear a lot of layers, I mostly feel it in my hands, after rinsing a find :hello2:
other than that, 25+ degrees is good diggin!
Is the US the only country still using Fahrenheit :icon_scratch:
