Eagle Cuff button!?!? Buckles and a what's it?

Hello everyone hope all is well! Returned to the site where I dug the 2 cent piece the other day and again wasn't disappointed no coins but I found what I believe is my first military cuff button!

The dime is just for size reference. The back marking says SCOVILL & Co. EXTRA
would that back marking indicate a date range? I have found the SCOVILL & Co. But nothing about the EXTRA? Any information at all would be awesome!

Also found a couple buckles tonight! Absolutely love the ornate one!

Now for the what's it? Any ideas would be awesome because I'm lost!

You're on a great site,I know that! Betcha someone comes along soon to tell you more about that little button. Going out on a limb here but the clip thing looks like it's part of a sword hanger but since it doesn't open I'm not quite so sure.

Thanks! I'm pretty oblivious to civil war buttons or relics in general. From what I can find I'm thinking the little button is civil war era. I'm in southern Michigan so I don't come across these things well never have until this point. However I looked at a 1872 plat map and this site was owned by a A Buffum so I got out my 1879 county history book and started looking thru all the soldiers names and I found him! Aaron Buffum discharged for wounds in 1863! Part of the 19th infantry. I'm absolutely thrilled feels really neat to know that the relics I'm finding belonged to a man who served.

Your Eagle cuff button is def CW era, and a great find! Congrats!

Congrats on the button!

Nice eagle cuff. The other item is horse tack.

From what you said about your button backmark it is made pre war 1840-1850. However it was probably worn on a union jacket during the war of northern aggression. Congrats on your first eagle button, hopefully more to come.
