Took the dogs for a walk around the lake today and was delighted to see a couple Eagles. I couldn't get in the best position for some good shots and with two dogs on a leash it's kind a difficult to hold the camera steady. Both took of across the lake and the hundreds of geese on the lake exploded in flight and noise when these two swooped low over the lake. They landed on the ice of the other side and then got bombarded by the crows. I saw these odd little species of waterfowl heading for the rocks on the shore as fast as the could during all the commotion these two eagles were causing with all the birds at the lake. They may very well be back there tomorrow, so I'm gonna go see without the dogs this time and maybe get some better shots?.

I believe those are mergansers. Nice pics. I saw ruddy ducks and scaup today.

Huh, these guys were rather small, but yes they look like the other larger merganser's I've seen at this lake. The larger ones had more of a cinnamon colored head with mixed white and darker feathers on the body then these smaller birds.

Great pictures. Thank you for sharing.

Absolutely beautiful! :hello2:

Here I was thinking you'd detected a gold coin (not really). Great pictures, I'd of loved to have heard the commotion from the birds interactions!...........63bkpkr

Okay, looking into these bird I believe they are the female Hooded Merganser's where as the other larger ones are the Common Merganser's.

BTW what I saw were the tiny ruddy ducks with their rudder like tails sailing in the air! What a sight! They are tiny. The other ones were blue winged teal. (Had to look them up, I had never seen any before.)

Yeah now and February is when I see a different variety of waterfowl species not seen most the time around here.

Thank you for sharing! :occasion14:
