Went on a mini road trip about 80 miles round.
Stopped at a bank I had been skunked on halves
before, said they had $500 in halves. I asked for
a $100 and searched in the parking lot of another
bank. Mix of MRW and CWR
Skunk.

So I go in bank #2, 1 clad half.

On to bank #3, the last one in this tiny prairie town,
the one I got my last mini score in. They say they have
$500. What's with the 500 deal today?
Again a mix of MRW and CWR???
Scored 5 40%ers in that batch.

Did some shopping and decided to go back to
bank #1. Bought the other $400. As I was
waiting for the teller to get them from the
vault I browsed their coin display case. On the
wall behind it is a price list.
It says 2011 silver eagles $56.75
2010 silver eagles $36.75
I ask if they have any 2010's as there are none
in the case. The teller checks and says no, there
are only 2011's and a couple 2005's. I ask how
much the 05's are as it isn't listed
and she goes to check.

I think I did okay.

The other $400 in halves stunk like dumps, lots
of marked coins.

Your bank sell coins?

Out here on the lone prairie a lot of banks have coin
display cases with coins for sale.

That's freaky. I suppose a bank is a private enterprise so they can sell whatever they want, but I've never been to a bank that does anything other than usual bank stuff.

Anyhow, nice score - I guess it pays to see what "coins" they have besides what's on display....

Wow, I've never even heard of such things lol. That's awesome, does that seem to make your cry efforts harder since the tellers are more aware?

My bank sells ASE's. They don't differentiate by years, though. Usually spot + premium. Sad thing is, I can remember 8 or so years ago when they were $8.50, which seemed a little high back then ::)

A lot of banks sell coins but I've always found their premiums to be $$$$$$$. I've found some banks selling silver proof sets for $100+ and clad proof sets for $50+ along with "coins of the west" including a low grade Barber quarter, dime, V nickel and IH cent for $75. But, older coins generally sell for a lot less if they've got them.

Definitely. CRH has never been easy here.
I live way out in the great American outback
Small town, less than 2000 population, I can't
dump here as the coins will set in the bank forever.
All 3 banks use the same courier service and if I
dump here I just get my dumps back next time I
hunt. I have to drive 80 miles one way just to get
to dump in a town of more than 3,000 people,
180 miles one way to the nearest town over 20,000.
I ordered half dollar boxes for awhile but they were all
skunks, I just pick up the customer wrapped rolls as
they come in and dump them as far away as I can.
I do buy dimes ocasionally and dump them in a
different local bank but the pickins are very slim.
So I buy all the halves I can afford and make a dump run
every other month or so. Good thing I have other
hobbies to pass the time.

I can drive a mile and hunt deer, pheasant,
coyotes or whatever. But the silver is hard to
come by. Some of the tellers are on to silver
sniping so that makes it even harder, but
I have scored some ASE's and rounds as they
don't adjust the price to the current silver spot.
They buy them, put a price on them and
that's it. I'm sure these were in their vault since
2005.

Nice score on the Eagles. I have seen plenty of banks here in MO selling coins, but only one time did I ever buy as their markup is pretty high usually. I did get 2 silver rounds for $18 each a few months ago when they put them on "clearance" to get rid of them. Gotta check everywhere for silver!!!

HH

nice on the eagles, but does your bank know about circulated silver? (pre 1964 dimes quarters and halves) and pre 1970 40%ers? (and the 1976-s silver)?
