🔎 UNIDENTIFIED Early 1800s button enthusiasts to the rescue?

I’d love help getting a little more information about the button my dad dug up in southern NH. It appears to be a late 1700s/early 1800s flat button. I’m hoping someone can identify the back mark? The back has a wreath and maybe says CAS on the bottom, but could also be GAS. The front has a checkered pattern .

I think your backmark is upside down. If you rotate it the symbol becomes a crown. I think it is a civilian "cross weave" pattern button. The backmark is a generic one and probably made in England late 1700s to early 1800s.
I think I have one similar in my collection.

This is extremely helpful, thank you! You’re totally right - when I rotate it, it does look like a crown. Just needed a different perspective I suppose.

I've dug 2 of these, both have an Eagle on the backmark where your crown is and they date early 1800. Yours having a cast seam and crown I believe puts it mid 1700's... nice one !! I see silver wash under the patina like one of mine, I hit mine with some lemon juice and she's a real beauty.
