After things warmed up a bit I decided to head out for an afternoon hunt. Went back to the site I hit a few weeks ago where I found the 3 Virginia staff buttons. This area was a couple hundred yards out in the field away from the c1760 home. I had marked the area I gridded previously and began to expand my search from that starting point. Finds weren’t plentiful, but I did manage to dig a few early 1800s buttons, and a couple colonial ones were mixed in along with a large early buckle piece. The best find of the day was an early 1800s artillery button with the cannon and eagle. The details weren’t the best but I was at least able to ID it. I also dug a few misc brass items including another 12 rivets from one small spot. This is the same area I found 6 or 8 the last time as I was walking back to the truck. Someone must have dumped a bunch of leather straps or belts in this area for some reason. I’ll probably revisit this site again before the season ends as I still have a lot of field area that I haven’t ventured into yet. But colonial hunting gets my first priority and since this site isn’t producing the early artifacts that I’m seeking it will probably be put on the back burner for now.

An awesome assortment of relics . I'm green with envy

Awesome, Bill! Also love the octagon flower button!!

WOW.. What a day of finding lost treasures.. Great finds...:hello2:

Awsome artillery button! Would the silver "flower" button be considered a Tudor rose? If so, significant age?

VPR

awesome early artillery button bill. Do you it was an early militia camp?? Why do all cuff links have the same design as yours lol.

Now that's what it's all about right there.nicely done.

Bill, the artillery button is a good find, but the silver octagonal CUFFLINK is my favorite and it would date 1750s or 60s. That may be a little too late for you considering what you have been finding recently - LOL

Those 1st Regt Artillery buttons seem to always be very poorly stamped, and suffer greatly from loss of detail. Normally about all you see is the wheel of the cannon. Great find though, and I really like the silver cufflink. I think those are fantastic little finds.

Bill, that's a Keeper. Very nice. We don't find much of those era relics down here. HH, Quindy.

Nice button Bill, that field still has some surprises.
