found these buttons near where I found the seated dime. they were about 10 feet apart so it gives me hope for good finds here. Killed the larger button with the serated edge of my digger and could feel it when it happened :-[ Thankfully it wasn't a good coin. going to have to make my plugs a bit bigger.

Oddly, the smaller button has an intricate design on the backside, but can't make out any on the front.

Thanks for looking

Nice buttons Bob ... hope they lead to bigger and better finds ~ Jimmy

Take you a wooden toothpick and hold it flat on the back of the button and scrape some of that crude off to reveal the letters and design of your button. FLAT against it. Scrape a little, then rub with your finger, scrape a little then blow the dirt off. Repeat until you can read your letters. Make sure the button is BONE DRY. Works well for me. Good finds.

here is a cleaned photo. All I can read is GILT below there the eye is bent. Around the middle is a weath with the design on the outside. Maybe I'll give it a run in the "WII" forum.

How do you do it again? ;D I guess I'd better hurry up and write an article before it's all common knowledge.

 love that article btw. used it to reveal some great gilt on a button that I didn't even know was there. I'll post the results over there soon after a bit more cleaning. Thanks BB

Found another one tonight in the moonlight. It says TREBLE GILT on the backside with an eagle and 2 stars. I am beginning to really enjoy finding these.
