I did some research and found a nice area to explore. Me and a friend found a cellar hole in no time. Luckily it was all under tree cover so no long grass to deal with at all. There was no modern trash and in the end we pulled a total of 14 coins. It was a mix of mostly tokens and a few coins. They mostly all dated to the early 1800’s. I found 9 coins and a great little bell and my friend found 5 coins and a nice masonic buckle. My best coin also turned out in the best shape. Its a 1818 US matron head large cent. I took great care in tooth picking the crust off that one. Also i was shocked when i popped out a complete little old bell. If anyone has any info on the bells age or type please let me know. I found a bent and holed mystery object that i hope can be identified as well. I was hoping for a old silver coin as well but in that era of time when they were using tokens any silver was scarce around here but that wont stop me from looking next time I’m there. HaHa
I found other cellar hole sites nearby this one as well but the are all in the open so they will have to wait until the grass dies off. I hope they produce as well as this one did. My buddy did beat me on the tick count though. He got four to my zero. HaHa
Thanks for looking! [emoji2][emoji106]

Great finds and cool cellar hole. When approaching such sites, where are coins more likely to be? There must be a ton of nails too. Love the bell too.

This cellar hole was unusually quiet all around except for the very odd piece of big rusted iron. Almost every other signal was a coin. They mostly all came from one side of the cellar which must have been where the front entrance must have been. It was perfect hunting even though the sound of silver would’ve made it even better! Great group of finds! I think the 1818 large cent planchets were really high quality copper. I have found a couple of them and both were in great condition. But then both were found in pretty good ground.

Thanks! We live on a property that has a cellar hole filled in with logs and bricks and dirt..Have found one 1835 penny there but mostly nails and iron. Happy hunting! I keep searching.....

I usually have loads of crap signals to deal with as well. Even though i do search everywhere i can I find theres a sweet spot not to close or not to far away from the cellar holes that have loads if the goodies that are easy to detect! [emoji2][emoji106]

Great haul and killer patina on that copper! Very much looking forward to a day that resembles that.

Amazing spot for sure. Congrats on the finds! Now you just need to find some early silver over there.

Kevin, you and your buddy scored big time with your finds on that cellar hole site! :occasion14:
The 1818 US LC is a great find and in amazing condition too!
There obviously must've been some sort of trade or business going on there 170 years ago.

I've been trying to think of a date range for your bell, but I can honestly say that the design of it has me stumped. :icon_scratch:
I don't think it was intended for use on an animal, as the condition is very clean, so possibly for use as a Sanctuary or Christmas bell?

Thanks. I can’t wait to hit the area harder. Especially as soon as that grass goes down. I appreciate you trying to find any info on my bell. I put it safely away in my “special” find’s case anyway! [emoji16]
