Early Christmas in WV

What a Day!!! ;
This is the best day I've ever had metal detecting. And would you believe it's Dec. 22. Temps were in the 50's today, so I decided to try the DFX out to a sight that I've found a few cw bullets with my older BH detector. The DFX showed it's metal.(pun intended)

Here's a better pic of the plate. I showed it to a Civil War historian friend of mine today, and he pointed out that it was cartridge case plate instead of a buckle. There a little scarcer than the buckles because they were only produced early during the war. The US was later just stamped into the leather of the case. Note the two hooks (rusted off) on the pic of the back that's how you tell the difference. A buckle has three hooks. I went back out today and found a few nails and this nice little bird point arrowhead.

Merry Christmas All!!
