I dug this navy button a couple of weeks ago at one of my friend Bill Dancy's colonial sites on the Virginia Peninsula. It is cuff size and has no back mark. I was thinking British Navy maybe 1812 era, but its not in any of my books. If anyone can identify it I would be appreciative.
Thanks

Cool button. Check out the post Casper made. He posted a link to a great button resource.

Evan - it looks like Silver Searcher's ID is correct. Check out the link below for similar buttons that are for sale. They don't have the same nice green patina as yours, but I do believe it's a match. Glad I could put you onto at least one good find during your visit. You definitely got your obligatory flat button.

WOW! Great find! Amazing how things can still be in tact after being buried for so many years.

That's a sweet early navy Evan. Glad you could get it identified.

And what a steal at only $300 more than they're worth. :)

Nice find...I've got the same one...I think IP has a bunch as well!

I'd say I've found at least 10 or 12. Once I got a nice one I basically stopped thinking about them.

Nice button!!

Still I do like these, & its in good shape.
